Farscape’s season 4 intro was my favorite

On the topic of fantastic sci-fi t.v. themes, Space: 1999’s first season intro is one of my absolute favorites

When it comes to classic sci-fi themes, Star Trek: The Original Series is in a class all its own. But of the dozen other Star Trek shows, I think that Voyager’s elegant intro stands head and shoulders above the rest.

Finally, although I never really watched the show, there’s other denying the Dr. Who intro is a true classic. And of its myriad versions, I’m fire and foremost a fan of the 1963 original opening…

That’s a solid list. Fringe, Firefly, and Eureka are a few of my “newish” favorite intros. My favorite older classics intros are Lost in Space, My Favorite Martian, and Buck Rodgers.

Always LOVED the Space: 1999 theme and other than the orchestration putting it directly in the 70’s, it still holds up great today.

Same with the ST: Voyager theme, majestic and inspiring, it lifts my spirits to this day. Jerry Goldsmith is a legend. And so is Joel, of course – the beautifully simple and austere theme of SG:Universe is a perfect match for the mood of the show. Just brilliant.

Speaking more modern, I loved the Star Wars: Andor intro(s), which evolved episode to episode to reflect each one’s content and mood. Like the rest of the show, just incredibly well done and thought out to the smallest detail.

Great picks!

I like the S4 Farscape intro better than the earlier seasons.

The disco section in the middle of Space: 1999 always surprises me.

Voyager’s theme was an improvement on the dirge-like Deep Space Nine although still a little slow for my liking.

Voyager was my favourite Star Trek theme tune. Deep Space 9’s would usually make me nod off (and if the theme tune didn’t make me sleepy the episode usually would). Babylon 5 changed/reworked the theme tune each season – seasons 4 and 5 were my favourites. I’d put the Gerry Anderson sci-fi puppet series Terrahawks theme near the top too!
