The Almagaverse adventure continues!

An away team made up of Colonel Jack O’Neill, Dr. Daniel Jackson, Dr. Rodney McKay, and android/AI Rommie has been dispatched to investigate a seemingly derelict freighter.  After parking the puddle jumper, the team has made their way in through the interior airlock where they have elected to check out an ebbing power source en route to the bridge.

The team heads down the corridor, a narrow gut of pipes and shadows and venting steam.  The deck is slick underfoot but still holds gravity, though it runs weak and uneven.

“You know what this reminds me of?”says McKay.

“The time you and your team explored that ancient space station built inside a hollowed-out moon?”guesses Daniel.

“I was going to say Tacoma,”says McKay.  “You ever visit in the winter?

Suddenly, Rommie stops.  The others follow suit.  She tilts her head as if to listen.  “What?”asks O’Neill.

A beat.  And then you hear it too.  A heavy hydraulic tread from a side hatch ahead.  Each footfall reverberating through the deck plating and into your boots.

It steps through a doorway, a hulking utility unit.  Armor-plated, hazard-striped, and streaked with grime, it swings round and its single amber eye settles on the team.  Then, it advances, slow and ponderous.  You step back, causing it to pause, only briefly, before it resumes its advance towards you.

What do you do?

A. Fall back.  McKay is leading the way!

B. Have Rommie reach out and override the unit.  And hope it listens.

C. Trust in Jack and Daniel – and their P-90s.  Light ‘im up!

CHOOSE!

  1. Utility Unit, you say?
Should be an easy task for B. Rommie, to interface with. Might come in handy to have on the way to the Bridge with most power out and doors non operational.

  2. A. O’Niell calls it, “Time to book!” Rodney and Rommie look at him confused. “Run away! Run away!” says Jack shrugging quizically. “Oh. Why didn’t you just says so?!” pouts Rodney, who then turns to run, leading the way.

  3. See, should have gone to the bridge! Hope Rommie can override it. If not then run away to the bridge. Aaaah big hugs for your Mum xxx

  4. Oh boy. The big scary ship has a big scary robot.

Now I know the P-90 is a capable weapon and has been used to great effect by Stargate teams. But I seriously doubt the manufacturers would recommend it as a good option against heavily armoured giant robots. Unless the thing has a weak spot – and it doesn’t look like it has much of a weak spot – the bullets are just going to bounce off. The fireworks display would probably be impressive to watch but I wouldn’t hold out much hope for the survival of our team.

Which leaves run away, or see if Rommie can get through to it. Unless we are really unlucky, there doesn’t seem much to lose in letting her have a try. The robot looks strong and well-protected but it’s not obviously carrying heavy weapons, it’s moving fairly slowly, and for all that it looks scary we aren’t entirely sure it’s hostile yet. Maybe the thing would like our help.

I think we should see what Rommie can do. Followed by running away… uh, sorry, Jack, I mean “tactical retreat and regroup”, if necessary.

  5. Option B.

Rommie is versatile and has the ability to reach out and override the unit in the wireless interface way, as well as in the reaching out and disconnecting an appropriate servo or hydraulic line sort of way.

Rommie takes point, I think, with Daniel and Jack close behind and Rodney somewhat less close behind.

  6. I don’t think P-90’s will do much, better see if Rommie can communicate.

    Let Rommie try

  8. Option B – but C if things go sideways (which they always seem to do!)

  9. Rommie for the win.

  10. Option B. It doesn’t seem to act threatening even though the team has obviously been seen. Rommie should be able to interface.

  11. P-90s ain’t gonna do squat against that.

My vote is for Rommie to try interfacing and if that doesn’t work, book it back to the Jumper and be back on the Enterprise in time for Riker’s sax performance in 10-Forward.

My vote is for Sharky! He is a movie star!

  13. I am a bit late here, but I just want to say: P-90’s, really? They were issued Star Fleet tricorders but not phasers? Even sticking with Stargate tech I would think they would go for a zat against something like that instead of a P-90.

    1. The SG team like to kick it old school.
