      At this point, there are very few crime shows I haven’t seen, outside of the new releases of course.

      I thought Karen Pirie okay. Watching the show, it really struck me that most of these crime shows all deal with the same social issues in the exact same way.

         I watch mostly Brit (or British influenced) cozy mysteries, with a few more intense ones (Vera, Shetland) thrown in, but I avoid the graphic, gritty ones that feature victim torture, excessive suspense (i.e. racing to disarm a bomb or save a victim), and miserable, ill-tempered leads, like Broadchurch. Which brings me back to the cozies. I actually liked Karen Pirie, she has understated spunk. 🙂

         Some common cozy themes: Old rockers resuming a career, drama at the dance school, murder at the retreat, cat or dog inheriting an estate, murder at the winery, murder at the cooking school, murder at the restaurant, poison mushrooms, murder at the wedding, the horse didn’t do it, and bicycle ‘accidents’. It is interesting to see the different twists and motives, but more than once I’ve seen an episode taken right out of the Columbo playbook. They just had a formula that worked, and it’s still being used today.

            Karen Pirie struck me as just more of the same.

            Didn’t like Broadchurch for the simple reason that, in the end, our lead detective didn’t solve the case but had the solution fall into his lap when the murderer essentially gave himself up, robbing the show of a dramatically satisfying conclusion.

               Between you and me and whoever reads this blog, I am convinced that I’m on “the spectrum”. One glaring symptom is LOVING more of the same. Growing up I only wanted hamburgers and french fries. I wore the same clothes every day, like Albert Einstein. That’s why I can watch the same show over and over and never get bored with it – it’s that comfort tv that I mentioned before. I like knowing where the surprises are so that I’m not disturbed by them.

               I’ve always been this way (growing up, my family always said I had a ‘one-track mind’), and it’s become more noticeable with age and added stress. I also hyper focus on interests (remember the Wraith, anyone?), until I’ve either had enough, or moved on to something else. Aaaaand I over-share. They say (who, exactly, are ‘they’?) that’s a sign of ADHD, but without an official diagnosis I just assume I fall into the neurodivergent something or other and leave it at that.

               Right now (thankfully) I’m not really obsessed with anything, except for Antiques Road Trip (NOT to be confused with Roadshow), and rocks. I do so love me a good rock. Or stone. Or pebble. Boulders are nice too, but too big to put in my pocket. 🙂 (Just the other day I spied a nice rock peeking out of the crushed clamshells in my accountant’s parking lot, picked it up, and asked them if I could have it. Yeah, they think I’m weird, too. 😛 )
