Today I received the following email: ”

“Hi Joseph,

A bit of editing on the Sc. 26.

P 22 Should read after Charlie says “And send me his address. Can’t wait to meet this guy.”

Charlie: A Uniformed Officer is holding him at the warehouse. I’m sending you the address. (or something like that)

Jesse: All in a day’s work, huh,  Good job.

Otherwise reads like he’s being brought in and is a bit confusing.

Thanks for all this though.”

Charlie?

Jesse?

I was confused, checked the sender.  It was an executive I had exchanged emails with in the past, but not someone I had actually worked with.  As I was trying to make sense of the email, I received another email, this time from a second executive who had been cc’d on the first:

“Joseph, once these changes are made we can release but take a beat to read it over tonight because it doesn’t play until next week.”

Her I did not know.  Obviously, they had the wrong Joseph.  I thought of just ignoring the mistake but figured the other Joseph might catch flak for not making the necessary script changes.  On the other hand, sending an email along the lines of: “Guys, wrong Joseph” felt kind of embarrassing.  After some thought, I opted for the following group response:

“Hey All,

I”m working on a rewrite that kind of changes the fourth act so that Charlie and Jesse end up adopting a pet monkey who can figure into future episodes helping to solve crimes and offering comic relief but some pathos as well as he was also abandoned by his father.  He’ll be sort of like Marcel from the first season of Friends but with more of an attitude.
Hope you like this idea.  I was going to pitch you first before writing but figured we were pressed for time so I just went ahead and did it.
Can’t wait to get your thoughts!
Joe”
Here’s hoping they love the idea.

  3. 😆😂😆😂 Now, if you REALLLY wanna have some fun with it …
Send that first exec, who has you in their contacts, a second email diving deeper into the monkey’s story and Charlie’s bond with it. You can explain how Charlie found the little guy at the warehouse all alone in a corner . Once Charlie returned home with the monkey and the two settled in, the monkey jumped up onto Charlie’s shoulder and bit him hard on the neck. As it turns out – the monkey is a vampire and has now sired Charlie. So, not only are the pair now bonded forever with Charlie having to obey monkey as his master but because of the tight bond Charlie can psychicalllly hear everything the monkey’s thinkin’. Only, you are going to explain all this from the perspective of you being Charlie and the exec who emailed you being da monkey. And you can close with. ……. I may not yet be at your beckon call to conquer all the script demons.. But putting my neck on the line so I can be. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. Thanks so much for the giggle today. I really needed it ♥️ xo

Monkeys have been tortured and killed for less.
