Mr. Inbetween (2018-2021) Season 3

Ray Shoesmith is a father, ex-husband, boyfriend, brother and best friend, tough roles to juggle in the modern age. Especially when you’re also a criminal for hire.

My thoughts: Didn’t find it as strong as season 2, but loved it all the same.  A great send-off.

4/5

Happy Valley (2014-2023) Season One

Yorkshire-based crime drama centering on the personal and professional life of Police Sergeant Catherine Cawood.

My thoughts: Great character work and an exceptional set-up, but I found the plotting too diffuse in the late-goings.  Still, I look forward to checking out season 2.

4/5

The Night Manager (2017)

The night manager of a Cairo hotel is recruited to infiltrate an arms dealer’s inner circle.

My thoughts: Like a very dry parody of a spy thriller.

2.5/5

Annika (2021 – ) First season

Witty, enigmatic DI Annika Strandhed heads up the Marine Homicide Unit, tasked with solving murders in and around the Scottish waters.

My thoughts: Love Nicola Walker’s performance and her dialogue with the viewer, but the episodic investigations were disappointingly sleight.  Still, there’s enough here to like so I will definitely be checking out the second season.

3.5/5

Perfume (2018)

When a singer is found murdered, with her scent glands excised from her body, detectives probe a group of friends who attended boarding school with her.

My thoughts: Intriguing at first and then progressively sillier in its exploration of the subconscious influence of scent.   Wildly implausible.

  1. I can’t speak on any of the series you recently watched, Joe
because I haven’t seen them. I may check out a few episodes of Mr. Inbetween when I have a bit more free time. Albeit, On a Different note …

As someone living with breast cancer, and my October 6 birthday once again rapidly approaching, I just want to take a moment to once again thank everyone for helping me make it to my next birthday.
I love and appreciate you all today and always
so much more than any words could ever express. xo

    1. Well Happy Early Birthday, Drea. And thanks for your continued contribution to this blog.

      1. Thanks. xo

It’s a quiet one again this year but I’m incredibly grateful to still be here and starting to feel a bit more like my old self again after everything I endured.

  2. Well at least a couple of them were fine. (this is MostlyUsesWords btw, I don’t know how I got myself signed up for this thing or how to use it, but I figured I’d give it a shot)

  3. Still no Unforgotten. Nicola Walker is in it. The first 3 seasons are incredible.
