Day 9 of 10 of this Montreal trip is fast drawing to a close as I prepare to return to my wife, my dog and, of course, my bed.

The whole reason I came here was to take care of my mother while my sister was away.  By “take care”, I assumed that meant doing things for her while she was laid up with sciatica.  As it turns out, Italian mothers are incredibly stubborn (who’d have thunk it?) and will, evidently, not be denied their cooking, cleaning, and gardening.  So I was more of a bystander this past week or so.

Pictured above: Sitting down for Mother’s Day lunch, then celebrating – and taking a break from gardening – to bake a bunch of almond cakes.

Across the street live a (comparatively) younger French couple, Andre and Chantal, who will walk mom’s dogs every morning and pick up requested items whenever they go shopping.

Today’s Yes/No…

  1. Joe, job well done!

You were there to be a companion to your mom and provide respite for your sister.

As a past and current caregiver, I applaud you.

    1. Sadly, no. My mother refuses to go back after they served her a dry smoked meat.

  2. Almond cakes. So that’s where all that sugar went to. Glad you were able to spend Mother’s Day with your mom. I bet she loved that. I guess Suji will be happy to see you. Maybe to make you feel needed she will save some poop just for you.

  3. I’ve never seen any movie at the cinema twice. gasp
To be honest, I think I could probably count the number of films I watched at the pictures on my fingers. There really aren’t that many.

I grew up in the 80s, with great action packed TV shows like A-Team, Knight Rider, Airwolf, Street Hawk, etc. A weekend meant all my favourite TV shows were on. Why would I want to spend £xx on a day at the Cinema, when I could get my fix for free?
That’s the mindset I grew up with, and even today I rarely bother watching movies.
    shrugs

  4. You’re mom has a full and happy life!

I hope you have a safe trip back to the ladies. 👋🏼
