Was thinking about your observation on the proliferation of condos and closing of small businesses. Sadly, condos squeezing out small businesses is not a new phenomenon. Until the 90’s there were numerous small independent motels along the lakeshore approaching Exhibition Place from the west. By the early 2000’s they had all been torn down and replaced by high rise condos. One of the motels where I stayed was next to an apartment building, which must have been torn down also. It was a modest building; the tenants would not have been wealthy. I often wonder what happened to them as I’m sure they could not have afforded to move into the condo which displaced them.
