“It’s like when you make ganache and you put it in the fridge and when you take it out it’s an hour too early and it’s not yet set. That’s what it was like.”
Akemi describing Bubba’s stool sample this morning.
Today, we took Bubba a very relaxed Bubba (he’s already on vacation!) to see his oncologist. This was the result of our meeting –
In a nutshell, no to chemo but yes to targeted therapy which is comprised of a single pill (Palladia, which sounds like a great scifi world) given every second day. In a perfect world, it will target the tumors in Bubba’s lung and not the person charged with administering said pill since the instructions explicitly caution anyone handling it to wear gloves while doing so! We’ll alternate the Palladia with Prednisone, an anti-inflammatory. I’m also going to look into a few promising-looking home therapy treatments.
Suji and Bubba. They’re like an old married couple.
Despite her recent injury, even Lulu gets in on the action.
Meanwhile, on Dark Matter, it was business as usual in the Raza underbelly.
Finally, presenting Dark Matter’s diabolical and deadly Misaki Han like you’ve never seen her before…
Ellen Wong Flips Out:

My sweet Bubba…
Awwww poor Bubba, it’s so hard when our babies are sick. My sweet 18,soon to be 19 year old Quaker and I collided back in Nov and long story short she hit the floor and broke her leg.( we have tile – not a fan) I take full responsibility I felt so bad. But she had a cast for 8 weeks and already spoiled, I spoiled her some more, breakfast not just in her bed, in our bed. That only lasted a week, and thank God she is back to normal. Nothing slowed her down. But it just breaks your heart to see them hurting. Got you guys in my prayers.
I found this regarding the drug you are giving Bubba: http://www.dogcancerblog.com/blog/keep-yourself-and-your-dogs-safe-with-palladia/
So glad you have a treatment plan for Bubba. Having a plan eases the fear of the unknown, at least, it did for me when I had cancer. I hope the pills do the job. Will prednisone upset his tummy and guts? It does a number on me. I have to take it before CAT scans because I am allergic to the contrast dye. Not fun stuff.
I hope it all goes very well. Everyone looks very festive in their aloha gear!
Sounds encouraging that there’s a plan going forward for Bubba. I really hope the drug is effective.
Watching that video of Ellen Wong makes me kinda dizzy!
So sorry Joe. Big hug for Bubba’s mom Akemi. She is with him almost all day, every day. But it sounds like they have something you can try. Hopefully this will extend his life longer. I’m praying for a favorable outcome.
Feels good to have a plan of attack. Sending prayers the meds work wonders with little side effects!
Having a treatment plan is always a good, positive place to start.
Looks like a sound treatment plan. Bubba, you got this!
So will Palladia appear in this, or next season of Dark Matter? =)
Sending positive thoughts and healing energy Bubba’s way! Will be praying every day that the treatment plan works. Warmest hugs to all of you. 🙂
Sounds like good news for extending Bubba’s life for a bit longer. Let’s hope he responds to the treatments well and you guys can make it back home to Vancouver to maybe get even more specialized/intense treatment.
Ellen Wong is such a big ball of cuteness! One of the best smiles in the business, too. What a doll.
She’s definitely too cool for me, too.

so very sorry to hear about Bubba’s situation. Prayers, good thoughts, for him and you and Akemi.
I have little doubt that you’ll still be posting new pics of Bubba on your blog by this time next year Joe.
By the way Joe, you should check out Chaos;Child when you next have the chance. It’s the sequel to Chaos;Head and still very much a confusing series lol. Yōjo Senki aka Saga of Tanya the Evil is pretty awesome too.
I agree with maggiemayday, having a plan does ease the fear of the unknown. Hopefully the side effects will be mild and Bubba will feel better soon. Prayers your way. My cousin lost his dachshund, “Little Miss”, Wednesday after she had a stroke. Love them while you can!
Addendum: I forgot to mention how dapper Bubba is in his Hawaiin shirt! Lulu and Suji get to style as well. It must be a prerequisite for your dogs to be able tolerate being dressed up. My dog was a Houdini, couldn’t even keep her collar on.
Hugs to you all. Fingers crossed for whatever treatment you decide. I’m glad to see Lulu can bear some weight on her paw.
Now THAT is a full-body hair flip.
