Thanks to everyone who joined my reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything). Topics ranged from Dark Matter to Stargate to pugs. In case, you missed it, here’s catch-up link:
Hi, I’m Joseph Mallozzi – creator of the Dark Matter series, writer-producer on the Stargate series, scifi fan and pug fan. AMA! from television
And special thanks to moderator Kishara for all the heavy lifting!
Hey, check out this awesome article by ThreeIfBySpace’s Tom Gardiner in which he makes the case for Dark Matter being a worthy successor to Stargate:
Why Dark Matter Fills That Stargate-sized Hole In Our Hearts
Looks like FOUR’s got something on his mind in today’s Dark Matter season 2 sneak peek screen shot.

In addition to the three hours I spent doing that AMA today, I also found time to go to Best Buy to buy a new washing machine (The old one makes the alarming ka-klung ka-klung noise and has tried to make a break for it. On several occasions, I’ve found it a good two feet closer to the door.) only to be told my local Best Buy doesn’t have any in store and that I would have to purchase one online. So I did. Exciting, hunh?
ALSO – I’m halfway through my rewrite of the new scifi pilot. The plan is to finish it up before month’s end, then send it to my agent and have him set it up. OR, if that fails, turn it into a comic book series. OR, if that fails, publish it on this blog, then wait for one of you to win the powerball and finance the show’s first season!
Hey, Stargate fans! I’ve got you covered too! Check out these little art department goodies…
Super soldier helmet.

And profile.
Last week, I also bought a new washer for my parents. Their not-so-old one (about 4 years old) was very stubborn about when it wanted to wash clothes and when it did not. It had a very bad attitude. My parents finally had enough and told it to “get out!” and asked me to replace it. So armed with lots of gift cards my dad had gotten over the years. I went shopping at Lowes. Luckily it was the last day of a sale they were having on washers. I bought a nice but simple to use Whirlpool. After the sale discount and redeeming gift cards, I paid $164.00. Can you beat that Joe? I didn’t think so… 🙂
Will definitely catch the AMA on the flip side! Love the pics. Don’t mess with Four and definitely don’t mess with Three at meal time! Three loves his food!
Thanks to Drea and Tam. Made it safe and sound. Joe, congrats on the progress on your rewrite! I’m excited for you. I think there are several words to describe you: driven, hard-working, overachiever to name a few.
Watched the first three DM episodes on the trip today. On track to rewatch S1 before the S2 premiere.
Have a great Sunday!
Three hours! Wow! I was going to post a picture of my hot dogs we had for dinner, but I’m not sure how to upload a photo in my post. 🙁
So I tweeted it, and here is my tweet! LOL

Yikes! 3 hrs eh?!
Twas like all instruments.
Then like a lonely flute.
Then it was the reddit to end all reddits
that did make all others be mute!
LOL! 😀 😀 😀
Sorry I finally had to bail at 5 pm, Joe.
Needed to go shower and get ready for dinner & drinks
with the producers for the new album.
The band’s 1st studio session is coming up on the 15th.
Albeit, it was so damn unbearably humid out there today
well into the evening hours
it remained next to impossible to be
even reasonably comfortable
heading outdoors for more than 5 minutes at a time.
– We ended up teleconferencing around 7
ultimately deciding we’d wait
for at least a slight improvement in weather conditions
sometime over the next 7 days
before attempting an in person get together.
Sorry to hear about your washer.
Is there no Home Depot, Lowes or Sears in Vancouver?
Those are the better places for buying a washer.
You can usually find what you want in stock
at a decent price and much more knowledgeable
floor assistance about the reliability of each current model
than Best Buy.
I finally got my Dark Matter DVD and had plan to spend the weekend catching up on the show.
Instead, I’ve been desperately trying to find an elderly friend who lives in Mt. Mesa California. There’s been a massive fire there that has destroyed well over 200 homes. She’s 77 years old with COPD and just got a pacemaker. Her son and his girlfriend have crippling back, knee and hip problems between them. Plus she has four dogs.
I’ve lived all of my life in southern California where big fires have been common over the decades burning literally thousands of homes. But this fire. This fire was unique and had burned 20,000 acres within its first 13 hours. It was just so fast. I’ve called the Red Cross and many other agencies, but can’t get any information. I’ve even tweeted a local reporter who traveled to the scene to see if maybe he could help. I’m so afraid they didn’t have time to get out because of all their physical limitations. She’s very religious and has always told me that she has a guardian angel watching over her. But she was worried that maybe she’d worn it out with all the problems that she’s needed help with lately. Although I’m not religious, I’m hoping her angel has given her one more miracle.
Ok So while you were slaving away today
trying to keep up with all the fast incoming
questions at reddit
then got busy in a wrestling match
with your washing machine
and I got caught up in an overly long tiring
much too sober & boring teleconference,
Your buddy Lou Anders was apparently having fun
discovering a brilliant place for macarons in Columbus Ohio.
http://www.pistaciavera.com/
Unfortunately I just checked – They refuse to ship their goodies! 🙁
Albeit if anyone should ever find themselves in or near Columbus…..
I think i need to go console myself with a nice fresh out of the oven
homemade chocolate chip cookie topped with a scoop of vanilla icecream
now..
The AMA was great fun and you seemed to be enjoying it. I hope it translates into more new fans of Dark Matter. From what I’ve been reading on Reddit (mostly lurking, rarely commenting) you’ve gotten the attention of a lot of Stargate fans that somehow missed out on DM. That sounds like new fans to me.
Thanks for the mention! I think everything I said was a statement of the obvious, but I’m hoping people will read, agree, and maybe try the show if they haven’t yet. Mostly, just hoping to get super rich so I can finance your new military scifi space pilot.
You never really appreciate the importance of a washing machine until it breaks. I hope your experience with BB is as good as ours was. They delivered them, installed them, one guy noticed a barely visible scratch on the side (which would be against the wall anyway), gave us a $400 refund because of it. So, the takeaway here is try to find a scratch on your machine. At least I think that’s the lesson.
@paloosa
Really hope you find your friend and her dogs safe and well very soon. Thinking of you all…
@Palooza Sorry to hear about your friend.
If she doesnt turn up on any of the local red cross lists by tomorrow
you might try getting directly in touch with the fire dept.

If that proves fruitless as well.
Post me a message @NewScience101 on twitter
with your friends name.
We have a half dozen or so education partners
and service users
in the Bakersfield/Kern county area.
I’ll post a tweet asking if anyone can try to get info
on her where abouts.
@Paloosa … sending good thoughts for your friends. I hope they are safe.
Great AMA, Joe, I read through it this morning.
paloosa: Sending prayers!
Ponytail: Great deal!
My washer is nearing it’s end too but I have another one picked out.
Kathy C: Yum!
We made homemade pizza’s yesterday but no picture. They were awesome though! Evan and I are getting very good at pizza making. I love the thin, crispy crust kind.
Sorry to miss the Q & A. I’ll check out your link though.
With a heat index of 105F (40.5C) yesterday, Dr Jo’s A/C unit stopped working. I’m worried about the cats but they seem fine for now. Called Dr Jo’s ex boyfriend, Mr Fixit (Bob) and he’s on the case. Bob’s rustling up a repair guy today, I hope! It’s classy when you can remain good friends with an Ex.
@paloosa…..sending prayers
Yay! Finally after 3 days of brutal heat here in central fl we finally have rain today to cool things off. Its just a drizzle, but its enough to do the trick. Think I;ll go take a walk in it.
@Tam Your homemade pizza sounds delicious. I tried my hand at making homemade pizza a while back. Attempted several times but
couldn’t master the crust.
Great AMA, Joe 👍 I loved the whole 3 hours, and I see you’re still answering questions on there!
Drea: I’m using this recipe and we get more than three out of it. http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/giada-de-laurentiis/pizza-dough-recipe.html
Thanks @Tam!
Am making citrus chicken with stuffed artichoke
for dinner tonight.
Will give the recipe a shot soon. xo
Drea: I love artichokes!
@paloosa please let us know what happened with your friends.
@Tam @Drea we make home made pizza all the time, but will admit that the breadmaker makes my dough for me. hee hee
I wish I was tech savvy enough to even know reddwhat? is and had the patience to learn. The latter is the worst. I tried to go on Instacrap and then found out I can only download from a smartphone, which I don’t have, so that’s a whole waste of my time. I liked it better when life wasn’t so complicated. 😛
