October 19, 2015: The Snow Monkeys’ Miracle Win! Let’s Celebrate With Some Exclusive Dark Matter Season 2 Concept Art!

There was the 1980 Miracle on Ice that saw a team of gutsy American amateurs best a powerful team from the USSR/

There was the Boston Red Sox 2004 defying seemingly impossible odds to rally from down 0-3 in a series to beat the heavily favored Yankees.

And now, it’s the 2015 Snow Monkeys who projected to lose by over 50 points, rallied late in Sunday night action, down 20, to upset the hitherto undefeated Fighting Hyphens (renamed Eager To Stay Employed by owner and Dark Matter VFX Supervisor Lawren Bancroft-Wilson).

Oh, they’ll be talking about this one for years to come.  The victory puts my Snow Monkeys at a record of 4-2 in Fantasy Football League play with an inside track on a playoff spot.

What better way to celebrate then with a sneak peek at some amazing Dark Matter season 2 concept art compliments of Production Designer Ian Brock, Set Designer Doug Slater, and Concept Illustrator Sanford Kong.

  1. If the final results look anything like those concept drawings we’re going to be in for a real treat for S2! As if that was in any question, of course.

I’m busy tonight following the election results – TV on, along with two websites and Twitter. And the way it’s going so far, I should’ve gotten some popcorn!

  2. WOW! The concept art is neat. Thanks for sharing. I’m learning this kind of work in a perspective drawing course. I’m amazed by all the line work. Detailed yet not too busy.

  3. Stop teasing!! That’s just, you know, really, really mean. And stuff.

Btw … a couple of months ago I let you know about a little dog with two broken front legs, who was given the woefully bad nickname of “Afro Man.” Well … after what some considered shenanigans on behalf of the A(lberta) SPCA (which most definitely weren’t shenanigans – all legal, and definitely in the best interest of the little guy) and two months of healing, I’m happy to say that he’s getting adopted. And that adoptive family is my ex-wife and our kids. 😀

So one very happy ending to a story that was itself unfortunate. (I also really learned my lesson about reading comments on news articles. You’d think that having had the internet for as long as we’ve had it would’ve made that a no-brainer, but nooooooo.)

Hope your pooches are doing well!! 😀

  4. Those drawings are really nice. So neat. So detailed. So beautiful. Ian, Doug, and Sanford just might be the best combo you have ever worked with.

@ Das – That video scared me! I liked it!

  5. Hi Joe… The concept drawings look great. I think you should call it maximum security rather than supermax though… Supermax wouldn’t have the communal table area. Those people are kept locked in their cells 23 hours a day and not allowed to interact with other inmates.

  6. Hi Joe
I suspect a lot of hammering in your future as they try to build that. 🙂

  7. Congrats on snow monkeys win, Joe! 🙂 Oooh that hallway design with what appears to be personal storage locker type doors?? is intriguing. New type of transporter device ?? Perhaps leading to alt dimensions/realities?

    @Das OMG! LOL! 😀

  8. Nice concept art! Looks like it’ll be a two-part season premiere by the looks of it. Dang it. Another cliffhanger coming after the first hour. 🙁

  9. GOOOO Snow Monkeys!! (sorry Lawren)
~~I think that season 2 concept art is amazing, such terrific detail for what is to come. The laundry looks like a good plan for escape,, I mean if there was an escape plan.. so many panels and hidey holes.

  10. The drawings look great! Looking forward to a supermax breakout this season.

Great video das. And so true.

Have you seen the new Star Wars TFA trailer? Chills…

  11. Thanks for showing us all the work that goes into a TV show. Amazing! It would look great on your office wall.

Brandon Williford: Yay on the adoption!

I came down with a cold and was trying hard not to infect my hubby. Then, last night, he uses my toothbrush by mistake. He’s doomed.

Hope everyone has a good day out there!

  12. Awesome concept artwork! So, our heroes are ending up in a prison? The Android too? Tsk-tsk… I wonder what deal they will have to broker to get “sprung”?

    Cheers!

  13. Looks like a lot of metal. Or painted wood. Looks great.

Did you notice one of Drea’s comments is attached to the last picture but doesn’t appear in the main entry? New WordPress design, I guess.

  14. @Das, the vid is funny but still too scary! I’m still freaked by It Follows weeks after watching it. I think I’m losing my fear factor, whatever it that used to make scary fun.

  15. Love the concept art.

Are the GA really going to imprison the Raza crew in ‘General Population’?
    That’s a big mistake – right? 😉
They should be held in ‘Maximum Security’ #BecauseWeAreDangerous 😚

    Things are going to kick-off from the get-go – Season 2 #BringItOn

  16. Congrats to the Snow Monkeys, I suffered my first loss for the season, by 6 points. I’m blaming the Atlanta Falcons DEF who scored a pitiful zero points.

I love the concept art sketches. I guessed prison facility before I even looked up what it was. I hope it’s a complex escape plan.

How long before FIVE figures a way to move around the facility undetected? Will THREE go stir crazy in confinement?

    Looking forward to it all.

    Cheers, Chev

  17. Looks like season 2 is gonna be really purty!

Seriously though, those drawings are pretty dang cool. Knowing how little you like to give away on your posts, I can’t even imagine how cool the stuff is you “can’t” share!

  18. Glad everyone enjoyed the video! 🙂 It scared the poo out of me, too! But then it made me snarfle. Snarfling is good. 😀

    das

  19. Congrats on the adoption @BrandonWilliford Very cool.

This is the future. Perhaps SuperMax in the future is our today version of maximum security. Perhaps in the future, there is “UltraMax” which is our version of “SuperMax.”
