Last night, we capped off our Canada Day festivities at one of Akemi’s favorite pizza places in Vancouver…Chez Rob!
Chef Rob works the dough.Sous chef Ivon prepares his own gluten-free dough (equal parts wallpaper paste and sawdust). The topping ingredients: everything from Peking duck and sausages to apple slices and walnuts.Oscar (aka The Cleaner) on hand to take care of errant scraps. The cook!Apparently, some nice leoparding underneath (it’s a pizza term).Apple, bacon, walnut, cheese and arugula (aka The Coopergula!)The gluten-free sausage and cheese pizza. The verdict? “I didn’t mind it!”raved Hillary.Peking Duck with green onions, hoisin sauce, and cheese.Barbecue chicken with red onions – Akemi’s favorite.Mushrooms, basil, cherry tomatoes, and cheese. And blueberry pie (a la mode, of course) for dessert!
The top-notch ingredients and genuine pizza oven yielded some superior pizzas. The ambiance was great as was the service. Terrific value too (considering all it cost me was the gas for the drive over)! I highly recommend you check out this place the next time you’re in Vancouver. Book early to avoid disappointment!
The Coopergula sounds delicious! Well…honestly, they all sound delicious! I doubt I’ll ever get to Vancouver, so how’s about sending me a slice of each in the mail? 🙂
Yes, I’d like to order a mushroom, basil, cherry tomatoes, and cheese pizza, and a sausage and cheese pizza with gluten. When can I expect delivery… 40 minutes? Big tip if you’re on time… 🙂
I’ve reached a level of gluten-free obnoxiousness such that I can’t even be around gluten-baking. The last time I made a loaf of bread for my family, I thought I was careful not to get exposed, but I was bed-ridden with joint pain the next day.
Despite having four pounds of lard in the fridge, I’m about to see if I can make a reasonable turkey pocket pie out of store-bought pie crusts. It’s for a sick person who can’t transition to frozen dinners so the sacrilege must happen.
Mmmmmmm, pizza! Food of the gods. I’ll have a meat lover’s pizza, please. All the meat and none of the veggies. My only concession to non-meat products on a pizza is the base, tomato sauce, cheese and oregano.
I have a double oven and I’ve recently discovered that the top oven/grill not only has the usual heating elements over the top (providing the grill function) but also a heating element in the bottom (rather than the main oven which just has the fan forced element behind the back wall). Which means I can put a pizza stone on the floor of the oven and it gets really hot. Still not as hot as a proper pizza oven but hot enough to do a better job than the main oven. I’ve been churning out the best pizzas of my life over the last few months.
The price of this pizzeria convinces me and the quality is obvious. 😉
Oscar is super happy. No wonder if in addition to more friends to play, boost the possibility of collecting bribes and other trifles. :bear:
I had to 😆 at your description of the gluten free crust. I’ve had a couple of gluten free pizza’s and they weren’t bad. However, when you get gluten free, dairy free, and meat free…they get a little icky. I’m thankful I don’t have to do those diets.
Those pizza’s looked yummy! Makes me want to buy a pizza oven.
The basil/tomato and barbecue chicken look tasty. But I’m intrigued by the gluten free (and I hope low carb?) pie. Maybe a gluten free thin crust would do the trick.
Can we get operating hours and directions please? Maybe a phone number for pickup or delivery?? 😀

das
Where do I sign up? I’ll bring pesto, mushrooms, and asiago cheese! 😀
Wood oven fired pizzas are my absolute favourite. Tell Rob I’m coming over next time I’m in town! 🙂
They do all look delicious, perhaps the gluten-free one less so. (Don’t tell Ivon!)

Looks great, sounds great. now if we could only taste test…LOL.
Wow, pizza I could actually eat! Looks yummy. Although our Papa Murphy’s does a nice Thai chicken take n bake.
I knew someone who used to haul a real wood fired pizza oven to the desert for Burning Man. That’s dedication.
You do know how to have fun.
