We were sitting at the cafe with Sharky where Akemi was enjoying an Earl Grey tea, I was sipping a mocha, and my mother way enjoying a double scoop of vanilla ice cream. Yes, it was 10 a.m., but I’m past the point where I micro manage my mother’s eating habits. If she wants to skip her lunch, she can skip her lunch. If she wants to just have protein pudding for dinner, she can just have protein pudding for dinner. And if she wants to eat vanilla ice cream in the morning, then why not?
We had struck up a conversation with the gentleman at the neighboring table who also had a dog. When he found out what I did for a living, he asked “Anything I might have seen?” “Maybe,”I responded. “Provided you’re a sci-fi fan.” He assured me he was and I told him I’d worked on Stargate. Well, it turned out he loved Stargate, all three shows.
“What was your favorite episode?”I invariably ask in this situation. Nine times out of ten, it’s always the same…as it was in this case…
“Window of Opportunity.”
So we spent the next forty minutes talking Stargate and sci-fi. A pleasant little diversion.
Then, it was back to the convalescent home where we hung out in the garden until lunch.
After helping mom into bed for her post-lunch nap, Akemi and I (and Sharky) headed out for our lunch. We had wanted to do Korean, but struck out. Twice. Both restaurants were closed. So we ended up going to average pasta. Meh.
Now back at home, I’m doing a little reading, a little updating, and plan to head back for mom’s 5:00 p.m. dinner. I going armed with dark chocolate, a little something for all of the elderly ladies that hang out with my mother. Akemi draws parallels between this and my love for going to the park, pockets filled with treats, for any dog I happen to come across. In both cases, I am VERY popular.
Alright, off to watch another episode of Columbo. Fingers crossed!

Except for the meh pasta, it sounds like a good day.
You’re a good son.
Say Hi to your mom from all of us, please.
Hope your Mum has settled in well xxx and she enjoys loads more morning ice cream. Thinking of you and Akemi and hope you enjoy the choccie with all the ladies later. Maybe some of them have watched Stargate too, you never know…
Funny you should mention protein pudding. I think of that line when, like last night, chocolate pudding is offered on our community menu.

Ha! Yes, I think that happens often…. It’s one of the few I rewatch consistently.
Here’s hoping this episode Columbo doesn’t prove total disappointment for ya.
Dark chocolate is always a good thing. Xo
Hi, there!Yes, “A Window of Oportunity” is a great fascinating episode. Bellissimo! But it’s difficult to make a choice, as all episodes of the Stargate shows are awesome and challenging. Each one focusses on significant science, phylosophical, metaphysical and historical realities , on past, present and future and brings up what’s best in humans: love, faith, hope, committment and reason. This is why Sci-Fi remains the best genre. It is all genres put together. And, yes , you and Akemi and your mother and Sparky are such a beautiful loving family. Treats for dogs show once more you have a heart of gold. As O’Neill used to say, when he had brought a puppy to Cassandra, “everybody should have a dog”. Of course, he said, ” every child”, but aren’t we all children of God? A dog is a gift of love , friendship and loyalty. By the way, we had been gifted with our dog ( a Daschund female, who is 8 years old now) for Christmas, when she was a puppy. Therefore her name is Noelle. Your Aug.16 Saturday Report is very tender and reflexive. Godspeed! ( as Hammond used to say)
Some great points regarding sci-fi, Christina! Give Noelle a big kiss on the nose from Sharky!
Thank you!
I’m watching Mind Over Mayhem (S3/E6) as I type..
Report back!
So.. you’re NOT supposed to eat ice cream at 10am? Hmm.
Do you mean to say the restaurant you went to was called “Average Pasta”, because actually that would kind of be an awesome name, if not a great dining experience.
