Back in Montreal, sleeping on an uncomfortable mattress and using uncomfortable pillows.  I woke up way too early this morning REAAAAAALLY sore.  Just my neck, back, and shoulder.  But still.

Did a little work on my taxes today.  Want to have most of it wrapped up before I head to Japan end of the month.  Speaking of which, also did some research on quaint Tokyo cafes and events we can check out during our stay.  Sent Akemi the full list which included –

Came across this concept art for “Jolinar’s Memories”, Apophis watching Sokar’s mothership explode.  Don’t think I’ve ever posted it before.  If i have, please ignore.

My sister picked up this apple fritter the size of a pot roast on her way home today.

Also these donuts and some canned cod liver!  Overall, they look okay, but I am saving my donut appetite for Japan’s I Am Donut and their unbeatable pistachio cream donut.

Meanwhile, the Crime Binge continues.  One of the (four) shows I’m presently watching is The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency.  Never read the books but I really do like the characters (especially the secretary), love the tone and the setting, but the mysteries fall short which is too bad.  Anyone watched it?  What did you think?

  1. Please let us know if purin tastes like flan.

I enjoyed “The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency” both onscreen and on the age. Beat you to it by several years. 😉

  2. That coffee shop sounds tasty. xo The art exhibit … Meh. Seems like something good for a 5-10 minute giggle after waiting in a 20-30 minute long line. Albeit, could prove worth the ticket price for those who elect to drop acid or consume magic mushrooms before entering.

  3. The food looks amazing! How was that fritter?

Good luck with all the aches/pains!

Have a nice visit with your mom.

I was planning a mom visit Monday but mom fell a couple of times yesterday. She has a kidney infection and feeling weak. One of my brothers is staying with her but I might have to go see her a bit early. I’ll pick her up some Boost/Ensure for her to drink. “Getting old is not for Sissies.” I can’t remember who said that but it’s so true.

Have a safe trip back home, too and say Hello to your mom!

  4. oops. Mea culpa. Should not have been so quick to comment your art exhibit idea without clicking the link and reading the full description. That’s what i get for responding when severely over tired.
Wow. So, it’s nine rooms with different experiences?! That’s definitely worth more than a 5-10 minute giggle. Looks like an all at once inspiring and relaxing experience.

Albeit, I still think you and Akemi should consume a dose of magic mushrooms before entering.

  5. No. 1 Ladies – I don’t have HBO – perhaps it will show up on BritBox or Acorn.

Question: Joe, do you think that presentation affects the taste of food? I ask this because some foods – especially those on the savory side – do seem to taste better when well-presented. However, I often find beautifully presented sweets to be lacking in both flavor and an appealing texture.

For instance, a good old-fashioned out-of-the-box chocolate moist cake (in my case, gluten-free), with a real butter cream icing is yummy, while cute, elaborately decorated cookies look nice, but are often bland and dry (I stopped eating most sweets even before going gluten-free because I found them quite bland – just sickening sweet).

(BTW – the only time the word ‘moist’ sounds okay to use is when referring to chocolate cake.)

    das

    1. They say you eat with all your senses and I would agree. I do believe that, more often than not, the appearance can help accentuate the overall dining experience. On the other hand, it can set higher expectations that can lead to disappointment (ie the example of the chocolate cake you gave).

      P.S. Agree on “moist”.
