Sad but true. Our time in L.A. has drawn to an end and (I can’t believe I’m saying this) I’m going to miss it. Surprisingly. To be honest, up until this stay, I haven’t been a huge fan of Los Angeles. Much of it had to do with the fact that, in the past, whenever I traveled here, it was for one or two weeks at a time. I was living out of a hotel, zipping around the city for 4-5 pitches or general meetings a day. But this time was different. This time, I brought Akemi and Sharky. We found a wonderful and very walkable neighborhood to live in for the duration of our time here. Instead of going through the hassle of renting a car and hazarding L.A. traffic, I just took Waymo whenever I needed to. We got together with friends, discovered new restaurants and coffee shops, and even settled into a comfortable routine. And, of course, there was work. I was very fortunate to have been invited to take part in crafting the first season of the amazing new Stargate series and I do owe my longtime friend and series creator and showrunner, Martin Gero, a debt of gratitude. The room was a terrific, overwhelmingly positive experience – and a whole lot of fun. And, yes, it did remind me of the good old days of Stargate so kudos to Martin for overseeing such an overwhelmingly upbeat and enjoyable creative environment where everyone felt comfortable enough to pitch their ideas, not matter how wild. And kudos to a fantastic and incredibly talented group of writers. I’ll miss them! Well, I’ll miss physically being in the same room as them as I shift my participation to zoom.
Yes, work continues in Toronto. There’s the writers’ room. And the writing. And I also have to finish up my taxes. And, of course, stock up on supplies ahead of the coming recession, shortages, and inflation spike. So a busy month ahead!
How is everyone’s April looking?
