Welcome to the dawn of MID-tv…

My mother was released from the hospital on Friday and is finally home.  We are all relieved.

On Monday, Akemi, Sharky and I fly to Montreal for the holidays.

What are your holiday plans?

  1. First, very glad to hear Mrs. Mallozzi is home. Hope she is feeling much better.

    The BBC article explains one of the many factors in my reduced TV consumption since moving in the autumn of 2023. Some of the others:

    —Dinner schedule at community dining room conflicts with evening newscasts;

    —We gave up the VCR that we formerly used to time-switch programs;

    —I haven’t yet replaced the comfy sofa that we had at the house;

    —I have subscribed to streamers but don’t watch them often.

    I could go on…

    How’s this for holiday plans:

    24th: San Antonio to Baltimore
    25th: Baltimore to Dallas, escorting disabled relatives to enjoyable family gathering.
    29th: Dallas to San Antonio

  2. Glad your lovely mom is home for Christmas, enjoy lots of delicious meals, restaurants and if course endless Hallmark movies about a girl who needs a man for Christmas.
    I’ll be enjoying the chaos of Amazon parcels not arriving, it’s the first Christmas I can actually blame the strikes for gifts not arriving late.
    TV isn’t bad if you skip glossy Mid TV shows to watch Arcane, Station Eleven and Fallout.

  3. So glad to hear that your Mom is home. I hope you can convince her to rest.

    I’m doing the last of the Christmas shopping and preparing cards and wrapping…. and getting distracted.

    My plans are to catch-up with friends on Christmas Eve afternoon and someone will drop me at my sister’s place where we will have our main family celebration – assorted cooked meat, veggies and dessert buffet style. We exchange gifts, wander around to look at the Christmas lights (my sister’s street has great decorations) and watch some Carols By Candlelight on TV. On Christmas Day my Dad will collect me and we’ll cook Christmas lunch together – Roast Turkey, veggies and plum pudding. Neither of us are gifted in the kitchen, but we manage to make it through without too much trouble and only the occasional call to my sister for advice lol. We’ll then watch some movies and have leftovers for dinner. I’ll be pretty tired after that so will sleep in on Boxing Day. I don’t have to be back at work until next Sunday.

    Cheers, Chev

  4. Oh and we have a mom trip scheduled tomorrow. Hubby works up until Christmas, so my son and I are driving over for the day. One of us has to be home for the cat and she does NOT travel well. 😉 After that, it will be holding down the couch and watch DieHard Movies. 👋🏻

  5. So glad your mom is home for the holidays!! Also glad your family, Akemi and Sharky are going to her house for Christmas! It should be a great time. Lots of pictures please.

  6. Also, tipping has gotten ridiculous. Tipping a fast-food restaurant? At the drive thru window?! (Jimmy John’s). They are like beggers. Why? They made a sandwich. And the sandwich is expensive enough! Just say no!

  7. Thankfully we don’t have a tipping culture here in Australia. And I reject it whenever I’m asked. We have a livable (just) minimum wage so there should be no need for tips to supplement staff wages.

    Glad your mum is home! Now you’ve just gotta keep her out of the kitchen so she can rest!

    A quiet Christmas here. We travelled to Melbourne a couple of weeks ago to catch up with family and friends. So I’ll be cooking a roast chicken with all the trimmings for two. I also have a small ham that I will be glazing with chilli jam and baking. Lots of leftovers to keep us fed over the following week.

    I’ll be baking stollen tomorrow. A Christmas tradition. Our neighbours just dropped off some eggs from their chickens so they’ll be getting one of the stollen, and maybe my gooey caramel chocolate brownie for those that aren’t into marzipan, as thanks.

    I’ll also be firing up the wood oven and cooking some pizza over the break. It’s summer here in Tasmania so the warm(ish) days and long evenings are perfect for inviting the neighbours around for a pizza party.

  8. We’re driving up to Pennsylvania to spend the holiday with my parents & father-in-law, since they are all still very tired from traveling for Thanksgiving. Gentle hugs for your sweet Mom, & I hope she lets you, Akemi & your sister take care of her while you’re all there. Joyeux Nöel…
