The Brokenwood Mysteries (2014 – ) Season 1
Detective Inspector Mike Shepherd arrives on assignment in Brokenwood, a small town where memories – and animosities – run deep.
My thoughts: Found this one fairly bland with some cliche characters and a weird Western soundtrack.
3/5
Gomorrah (2014 – 2021) Season 2
Ciro disregards tradition in his attempt to become the next boss of his crime syndicate. The internal power struggle puts him and his entire family’s life at risk.
My thoughts: This top-notch Italian mob show grows darker still in its second season 2, constantly upending audience expectations.
4.5/5
Baby (2018 – 2020) Season 1
A coming-of-age story that explores the unseen lives of Roman high schoolers. Loosely inspired by a true story, the series follows a group of Parioli teenagers as they defy society in their search for identity and independence
My thoughts: Elite without the finesse.
3/5
McMafia (2018) Season 1
Alex Godman has spent his life trying to escape the shadow of his family’s past. But when a murder unearths their past, Alex is drawn into the criminal underworld where he must confront his values to protect those he loves.
My thoughts: The title is appropriate as its the fast food equivalent to much better mob shows.
3/5
Bang Bang Baby (2022) Season 1
Alice is a teenage girl who finds herself involved in the Milan’s criminal underbelly for the love of her father. To cope, Alice will use her imagination, influenced by music, TV and pop culture of her time: the 80s.
My thoughts: Like a high calorie cake – visually appealing, delicious at first, but ultimately insubstantial.
3.5/5

I couldn’t get into The Brokenwood Mysteries. I’d have to agree with your review.
I will look at Gomorrah. Thanks for the recommendation.
Have you seen the Abigail movie? It looks interesting.
Oh and we watched Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. It was bad. Not as bad as the all female version but still.. It borrowed ideas from The Mummy and several other movies. We did have fun predicting what was coming next. The original Ghostbusters wasn’t complicated, didn’t star mega names but was so much fun. I’m not sure the original GBs would have been made today.
Thanks so much for the Ponytail update! Sending prayers and good vibes to you, Ponytail!
Happy Sharky Sunday! 👋🏻
It seems like a lot of these shows wind up a 3 – fair to middlin’ as my Dad used to say. That shouldn’t surprise I guess given the current state of entertainment media. Volume over quality and all that.
Great to hear Ponytail is getting along well!
You guys are so sweet!
And thanks Drea! And Joe!
