I went through most of yesterday under the mistaken assumption that it was Wednesday, so my weekly Amazing Covers post was one day early.  So today, in atypical Wednesday fashion, I bring you some delicious dishes we enjoyed prior to heading into pre-lockdown mode…

A few of the dazzling dishes we enjoyed at 156 Cumberland for Dr. Blackjack’s birthday: Hamachi and cucumber with wasabi oil, Beef tartare in tofu skin pockets, Chestnut-stuffed chicken wings with black garlic glaze, Duck leg confit, Mushroom truffle congee, Beef short rib, Brown butter cake with honey ice cream, and Chocolate mousse.  The menu is a confident mix of French and Korean.  It’s only been open for about three months now, but judging by the room on our visit, it is fast-developing a loyal clientele.  Check them out!

A return visit to Bloom Cafe for Christmas cake, Matcha and Earl Grey cream puffs, a Yuzu and Earl Grey panacotta, a Matcha eclair, and a Matcha daifuku.   One of my favorite dessert spots in the city.

Today’s Yes/No…

I mean, sure.  Why not?

New Year’s is almost upon us…

Apparently, cleaning is also a strange Japanese New Year’s tradition.  And, in keeping with said tradition, Akemi is putting us to work…

My argument that my participation should be considered cultural appropriation fell on deaf ears.

Finally but no less importantly…

  1. Still not so sure about the rusty nails … I’d stick with instant ramen instead.
You and Suji look great. Happy cleaning.

  2. So, you spent Tuesday thinking it was Wednesday. Are we suppose to be surprised? I’m not surprised. As many times as you get the date wrong on this blog or forget to add a title, this is just par for the course.

Speaking of “course”, those dishes look fantastic. Very artistic.

  3. When you’re stuck at home, it’s easy to forget what day it is.

Cleaning day: You’re the Babushka now! 😉 It feels great to have a clean house. Whenever, I want to do a deep clean at, I watch Hoarders beforehand. Those folks make me feel normal.

    The food porn looked amazing!

I’m considering a Mom visit tomorrow (Friday). I was going to go yesterday but storms were rolling in. Thankfully, we were spared any tornadoes.

I hope everyone has a great Thursday!
