As many of you have no doubt heard, actor Willie Garson passed away at the all too young age of 57.  Most media cite his work on shows like Sex and the City and White Collar, but of course Stargate fans fondly remember him for his portrayal of the Martin Lloyd, the lovable fugitive alien-turned-television producer on Stargate: SG-1.  Although he only appeared in three episodes of the series, they were milestone episodes and among my very favorites, in large part due to Willie’s performance which was at turns humorous and heartfelt.  He made us laugh but, more importantly, made us care about his character.

I never had the opportunity to interact with Willie personally as I spent most of my days up in my office writing, rarely venturing to set where production rested in infinitely more capable hands, but I heard nothing but great things about him and his overwhelmingly positive spirit.  I do recall that Richard Dean Anderson got along famously with Willie and this was noteworthy because, while Rick generally got on with everyone, it was very rare that a guest star would have him in stitches to the point that they were having trouble getting through scenes amid all of the laughter.

A wonderful actor and a wonderful human being gone way too soon.

  1. I used to watch Mr. Garson in Covert Affairs and he was awesome in that show, too. There was just something about him…. He will be missed. 🙁

  2. I only saw Willie in Suits and SG-1. He was great in the two very different roles. Word on the street is that he had pancreatic cancer, an unbeatable disease. Although our government is not commenting, this plague has to be caused by some common substance due to the number of people stricken with it. I was in the medical profession and we almost never heard of a case of pancreatic cancer 20 years ago. I have lost friends to it and now we have lost an immense talent way too young. Willie, like Cliff Simon and others, will definitely be missed.

  3. Willie Garson also had a recurring role on the 2010 version of Hawaii Five-0. Gerard Hirsch was an illegal arts dealer and then after the Five-0 team put him out of that business (they think) he later was a crime scene cleaner. He had a crush on Officer Kono and was always sweet-talking her like only Willie could do. He was so cute and very funny. He was one of those actors whose personality made him so loveable. I have all 10 seasons of H50 on DVD, so I will be enjoying him for years to come.

  4. It’s hard to believe he was in only 3 episodes. His performances stick out as a huge part of SG1 to me. RIP😥
