What do you think?
Blog regular Gilder sent me this article on the decreasing film and television production in California as studios look elsewhere – out of state and out of country – where the lure of tax incentives offer the promise of bigger bang for your bucks. The article lists four popular regions – the U.K., Canada, Eastern Europe, and Ireland. I find the last two especially appealing, partly owing to the fact that I’ve always wanted to visit Hungary and Ireland, but also because we were looking into shooting a show in the former as well as potentially show running a series in the latter at some point last year. Of course as is often the case in this business, the promise of shooting overseas (at one point, Portugal and Czechoslovakia were in the mix) went the way of Citadel: Honey Bunny season 2.
Given the prospect of shooting anywhere in the world, my first choice would be, unsurprisingly, Japan. My second choice would actually be Portugal, a place I researched while developing that supernatural surf mystery series. Third choice? Honestly, after my recent two and a half month stay, I would say Los Angles.
What about you? Where are you shooting your dream show?

Gotta be Rodney.

I love the landscapes of shows and films I see shot in New Zealand!
My dream project would be shot in central New Jersey and southeastern Pennsylvania. That’s home, no matter how long I live in Texas.
My choice would always be Canada – so many different planets to find there. 😊 Also, I just love Canada and its beautiful landscapes.
MacKay of course!
Stargate!
Its gotta be Rodney., look at that punim! I’m gonna hope you get on the Last Samurai Standing to film in Japan and orchestrate amazing battles.
McKay then, as Seven has gone boo hoo. Is it the same as a destination you really want to go on holiday? Or have you got to take the shoot aspect in consideration? Any hoo, mine are Angkor and Rome (and other parts of Italy, I love it) Never been to Cambodia though. Rome is amazing for Roman history if that’s what you’re into. Can’t wait to go again this year but it’s a shorter flight from the UK…
I’m glad so many productions are coming to the UK which means more work opportunities for me. My second choice would be Switzerland, my original home country.
Joe, I agree with you about Portugal, especially the Azores would make for stunning shooting locations.
Gotta say Vancouver would still be my favourite place to have a show. It’s just such a great city.
I concur, Vancouver is the best filming location.
