And on keyboards….Todd!!!

Okay.  I have completed a rough draft of the pilot script for Project F.  It’s only slightly over-long at 61 packed pages.  Tomorrow, I am going to revise the last two acts, then review the entire script with the aim of adding a few more gaming touches, a better sense of First World and Second World social orders, and, of course, music flags.

Oh, hey, apparently there is a section called “feedback” on this blog where people have been leaving me feedback as far back as August 15th.  Apologies, but I didn’t even realize this existed.  And I truly hate it.  It’s like receiving DM’s from fans asking show-related questions that would be better suited to public forums where their fellow fans could read and benefit.  It’s like linkedin – totally useless but, apparently, almost impossible to delete.

So, how’s everyone doing?  How are those New Year’s resolutions panning out, may I ask?

Believe it or not, I’ve never had Mardi Gras King Cake.  What am I missing?

  1. Can’t wait to hear more about Project F! I have never noticed any “feedback” part of the page – why wouldn’t people just post a comment if they had a question? Strange.

Still doing okay here, though post-holiday COVID outbreaks have brought the entire province back to the “orange” phase, basically meaning no personal contact outside your household, which can be tough. Understandable though, as the case numbers here have really shot up, exceeding even levels at the start of the pandemic. Still nothing compared to other parts of Canada, though.

One thing I wanted to do in the new year is get back in a daily workout routine and eating better, which I’ve been doing for the last week – and I already feel much better. What a difference even after just a week.

I’ve never had King Cake, though they did feature it on the most recent, much delayed season of The Amazing Race. (I think it was recorded something like two years ago.) Racers had to dig through racks of the cakes looking for a little figurine of a “king cake baby” (?) They pawed through so many of them, it was kind of disgusting and probably coloured my impression of the actual cake to the point where I don’t think I could eat any.

    1. Whoever gets the baby Jesus in their slice has to do something which varies. They might have to host the next party at Mardi Gras. Or sometimes they are told they have to make the next cake. Or the person will be blessed with luck and prosperity. They are king or queen for the day AND must provide the following year’s cake.

  2. My friend in NOLA assures me a good King Cake is life. She recommended a bakery, Dong Phuong, but they’re booked up for delivery. It would run me at least $60 to get a cake delivered, and I don’t have anyone to share it with. Maybe next year. Maybe next year in NOLA….

  3. Bruno Albouze posted a King Cake video a few days ago. I’ve never had one either but I’m keen try to making one. It looks yum!

  4. I’ll look for the Blue Bell King Cake flavor when I go to the grocery tomorrow. I’ll look for a King Cake, too, for comparison. San Antonio (TX, USA) may already have them, since Epiphany (Three Kings’ Day) was Jan. 6. Perhaps I’ll video a Weird Food taste test, Joe.

In Hispanic cuisine, King Cake is “Rosca de Reyes” and probably takes a slightly different form than the Louisiana /French versions. I think the last one I sampled was more like Mexican pan dulce (muffin-like texture) than a multi-layered pastry.

Gforce, I’m tempted to explain “King Cake baby coin /token” tradition, but I’m sure Wikipedia will be superior to my efforts.

  5. I’m trying to get on the indoor bike at least every other day. I definitely feel better with exercise. I’ve been watching youtube videos of someone crafting model houses using dollar store materials. They are very calming and it’s amazing how time flies when you’re watching someone create a miniature hardwood floor using coffee stirrers. I know, I’m a SAD individual.

  6. comme vous le savez ici c’est le couvre-feu! J’avais résolu d’aller courir 2 km tous les soirs…

  7. As I posted on Twitter, I will never eat Blue Bell Ice Cream again after the knowingly allowed Listeria into their product not just once but TWICE. The ex-CEO is facing NEW criminal charges just this past 10/22/2020. Also, they don’t put any protection on their product. There was a viral video surfacing of someone opening up a container of Blue Bell ice cream and licking it right in the container and then putting it back in the freezer. If I buy ice cream, I will only buy ones that have protective package between the top cover and their product.

  8. You asked, ‘So, how’s everyone doing?’

    One word.

    Four letters long.

    No, not the usual ones:

    B L A N D

    Oh, boy, life is boring.

At least before Christmas there were holiday themed shows, music, decoraions etc but now just snow, a possible Polar Vortex across much of Canada, it seems and some very long months ahaed I fear!

    1. Yup four letters:
      B L A N D
      1 2 3 4 4
It’s a gift to have such a brilliant mathematical ability such as my own!!

  9. Here’s Charlie Andrews’ King Cake video. He’s legit cajun, which you’ll figure out quickly from the accent. We follow him for cooking because he actually shows you how to do the techniques needed.

It looks like it’s a cinnamon braid where you get the cinnamon inside the strands of the braid instead of between them and the rest is about purple, green, and gold Mardi Gras colors.
