Ooooh.  Spooky.  Just in time for Halloween.  The Royal Ontario Museum is hosting a horror-themed exhibition: It’s Alive!  Classic Horro and Sci-Fi Art from the Kirk Hammett Collection.

Akemi’s reaction upon glimpsing this classic film poster for The Creature from the Black Lagoon: “He looks like one of the Real Wives of Beverly Hills”.

Haven’t watched the show, so I’ll take her word for it.

THIS guy!

This little guy appeared in a movie called The Saucer People.  When Akemi asked why they were called the saucer people, I explained that they flew around in an alien ship then referred to as a flying saucer.  Also, they were big tea drinkers.

The humorless security guard looked so much like Bela Lugosi.

Day of the Triffids.  Love the novel.  Does anyone else feel John Wyndham doesn’t get enough love?

Actual prop from the movie Frankenstein.

This Boris Karloff lookalike had the most impenetrable stare.

Kirk Hammett’s themed guitar collection.  Did I mention he’s lead guitarist for Metallica?

The horror!

Imagine waking up at midnight to find this spooky character standing over your bed?

We capped off the day with Japanese barbecue in the company of Jeff and Barb.

  1. John Wyndham’s “The Kraken Wakes” is the best alien invasion of earth novel ever written.

  2. Oooh, I’d love to see that exhibit.

One of mom’s stories about working in her dad’s fruit stand was about how Boris Karloff came up behind her and his simple, “Excuse me, miss” scared her to pieces because his everyday voice was deep and incredibly spooky. She’d been to one his his movies and he made her jump out of her skin. Nice guy though. She sold him pears.

Yummy lunch. Yakiniku? Not soupy enough for sukiyaki or shabu shabu?

  3. Yes! John Wyndham was my favourite author as a teenager! I haven’t read his stuff for over 20 years. I think it’s time for a re-read!
