So last night I completed a first draft of the pilot for my (formerly) Untitled Awesome Project, then today I reverse-engineered a 24 page outline (because, of course, it’s easier that way).  In looking it over, I have to admit – it’s a pretty crazy script, a lunatic sci-fi comedy with action, aliens, adventure, banter, camaraderie, humor, and an absolutely bonkers climax involving mind control, sonic attacks, and an extended choreographed dance sequence.  It’s pretty freakin’ wacky.  Perhaps TOO freakin’ wacky?  “I LOVE it!” could be as likely a response as “Are you out of your mind?!”.

Maybe.  Maybe I am.

Oh, hey, if you’re looking for my opinion on provocative online, here ya go –

No.

So, tomorrow, it’s off to the production offices to talk visual effects, costumes – and have a conversation with that comic book company about the two series I pitched them.

And while we’re on the subject…

Nah, I’ll hold off on that one until we get some feedback on the revised pitch.  But if we land it, this one will be HUUUUUUUGE!

  1. Oh, PLEASE let the HUUUUUGE project be a masterful parody of a billionaire turned politician.
    🤯

  2. Awesome! I for one will be looking forward to the wacky parts. It sounds like you won’t need to worry about a comparison with the Orville which is a fun comedic version of Star Trek.

  3. I love the idea of the UAP! The more wacky and fun, the better.

The Chickeeto burger intrigues me, I have to admit. I think I’d have to try it before rendering judgement.

  4. Hey Joe, You’re not working on “Patrick Stewart’s” new Star Trek series are you?

  5. ok thanks, now I want a chicken sandwich to go with my Cheetos, looks good~!
    ~~Good luck to you!!

  6. Very intrigued as to what the outcome will be on this script though… as you say; it could very easily go either way. Are you by chance working on a more ‘old school’ sci-fi series by any chance though? Don’t get me wrong! I love shows with emphasis on comedy. But it’s always great to sit down and watch something a little more serious in nature.

Oh and Joe… Please try a mac and cheese burger. It’s quite possibly the best thing ever. Trust me on this.

  7. Hahaha, your choices are the exact opposites as mines. I guess you don’t like to eat gooey stuff. 😀

Good for the script! I’d say “yes” for the wackiness of it.

  8. I like “HUUUUUUUGE!” !!

I bet that KFC Cheetos Chicken sandwich is good, but come on. Have they given up on inventing anything delicious and healthy for you?

Hm… Think I’ll go have me a little bag of Cheetos…

  9. Joe. What is the payoff? What keeps you writing and creating new shows even when you have to go through so much rejection first. I’d wonder if it is worth all the pain. Is this like playing the lottery?

  10. Bonkers is good, bring it on. Trying to think of musical interludes in your canon to compare; Android’s ukulele duet and Beyond the Night in Critical Mass tell me this new interlude is gonna be wonderful. Off to enjoy a Beyond the Night clip.

  11. Good luck on all those projects. The first one sounds fantastic.

As far as the food, I would not try ANY of them. Blech. Barf.

  12. Have I missed an announcement of yours? Do we know on what show you are working for now?
