When you gather up a roomful of talented but very opinionated writers and put them to work on a show, you’re bound to run into more than a few disagreements.  Often, heated debates ensue and, after much back and forth, consensus is reached – perhaps grudgingly on the part of certain participants.  There are those occasions, however, when writers will be presented with an idea so true and clear that support for the notion proves instantly unanimous.  To date, in our writers’ room, these are the handful  of ideas that have received general approval…

10:00 a.m. is a better time to start the writer’s room than 9:00 a.m.

Most of the tea sold at David’s Tea isn’t really tea at all.

Those flavored no-cal sparkling waters are fantastic.

Parenthood isn’t for everyone.

Cauliflower stew is a terrible lunch option.

And that, off the top of my head, is about it.

Thanks to everyone who offered their excellent restaurant recommendations and culinary offerings.  Looks like I’ll be criss-crossing the globe for gumbo, lasagna, and apple muffins!

Hey, anyone familiar with the beautiful Buffalo area?  Is there anything I should check out while I’m in town?  Something I absolutely, positively canNOT miss?  What is Bison City’s best restaurant?

Things Agreed Upon In The Writers’ Room!

Okay.  Good to know!

  1. Buffalo chicken wings! The originals. Forget the name of the place where they were invented though.

  2. Buffalo is fine. I grew up in Western NY, primarily Monroe & Livingston Counties. It’s not worth it to go to the Anchor bar for buffalo wings, though. If you’d like to try wings when in that area try them at Gabriel’s Gate or Elmo’s.

However, when coming to Phoenix, lean more into the southwest flavors by visiting Los Dos Molinos for their green chili stew. Or check out Taco Guild for a fine Cherry Chipotle Steak or Lamb Molina taco. Save room for their flourless chocolate dessert at the end, you won’t be sorry.

I’d love to see you, I live 10 minutes from the airport and no one needs to know you’re here. It’s what I tell all my visitors.

    Happy travels!

  3. Anchor bar claims the fame, but really there are better options culinarily at this stage.

  4. “Don’t take your guns to town son
Leave your guns at home Bill
Don’t take your guns to town.”

  5. Recommend you cross border at 405 (it becomes 190),
rather than staying on QEW all the way into Buffalo
so you can explore the greater B area area a bit.
Hot sauce loving students in our NS101 community
seem to enjoy a place called Duffs.

There are apparently also a couple decent NY style deli’s
to get a hot pastrami on rye.
And I’ve been told , by avid comic book readers,
    to check out
Queens City Bookstore in the morning
and Empire Comics in the afternoon.

  6. I know this is a long list but I hope it helps.

  7. Both the Anchor Bar and Duffs claim the original Buffalo Wing. Both places are great. Keep in mind the medium is actually hot, the hot is an inferno, and the suicidal are like drinking napalm. Some of the best sub sandwiches are actually at their local grocery store called Wegmans.

  8. Can’t wait for those pics of culinary Buffalo. I agree with Ivon, the wings have to be amazing there. I’m enjoying this post with a stroopwafel, it’s so pre-storm dark this morning that confused crickets were chirping at 9 am. There’s a storm a’ comin’.

  9. However, Korean BBQ roasted cauliflower is worthwhile. I don’t know how well it would do as a catered dish, as it is best served hot and fresh. Another Larry dish. The man was a damn fine cook.

  10. Have a nice trip! Please post food porn. 🙂

Any luck finding a Suji sitter?

Lucy has finally adjusted to my son moving back in. They were playing chase last night, I think that means, she’s accepted him into her tribe. Maybe that would work for Suji? Have someone move in for a while. Thought I would throw that out there.

  11. The other museum I forgot to mention in my post was The Skeptiseum in Amherst, New York: http://www.skeptiseum.org/
It has been featured on Mysteries at the Museum multiple times.

I would have just replied to my post by clicking the reply button but nothing happened when I clicked on it.

  12. Wegmans is the best grocery store in America. I miss it terribly & concur on the subs. Anchor & Duff’s are good, but I stand by my earlier recommendations for wings. All in all I hope you have a wonderful trip Joe! Take pics & rate foods.
