In what’s become a weekly Wednesday tradition, here are my favorites…

Elephantmen #80 (cover art by Boo Crook)

Brings all the feels, no?

The Flash Annual #1 (cover art by Hi-Fi, Howard Porter)

I became a fan of the Flash during Mark Waid’s magnificent run on the series, so this intriguing cover pushes all the right nostalgic buttons.

Deathstroke Annual #1 (cover art by Ryan Sook)

Black and white with a touch of gold. Nice. Love the asymmetrical composition.

Old Man Logan #34 (cover art by Mike Deodato Jr.)

Simply bad-ass this cover featuring Logan, Mariko (I believe), and a slew of ninjas. Old school!

JLA/Doom Patrol Special #1 (cover art by Frank Quitely)

Milk Man making his super human deliveries. Probably my favorite cover of the week compliments of the ever whimsical Frank Quitely (that my auto-correct insists on changing to Quietly. Frank, forgive me).

Falcon #4 (cover art by Jay Anacieto)

Shades of Dante’s descent into Hell except, in this case, our hero aint going of his own volition. Stellar horror.

Big Trouble in Little China: Old Man Jack #5 (cover art by Rahzzah)

Artist Rahzzah makes another of his weekly appearances, this time with a portrait of future Kurt Russell as Future Snake Plissken. Zoom in on that weathered face, those wizened eyes, to really appreciate the artistry.

Beauty #19 (cover art by Nick Filardi, Jeremy Haun, Baldemar Rivas)

The eerie elegance of the Beauty cover art is downright mesmerizing.

The Beautiful Death #5 (cover art by Mathieu Bablet)

Another artist who has made multiple appearances on this weekly feature is Mathieu Bablet with his gorgeous post-apocalyptic cityscapes.

Those are some really great covers. It really is art – and I think unappreciated by the public at large. Of course, I suppose most art is.

I had a dream last night Joe, that YOU were in! In it, you were holding a writing class, and I along with a few other people were attending. But when the course started you revealed that it was actually a SOFTWARE writing course (TWIST!) and started giving details about what the programming language that you would be teaching. And, despite my decades of computer experience, I could not figure out what the heck you were talking about. You then immediately said that we would have to write a test about our subject knowledge and I totally panicked because I didn’t know anything about it. Anyway, the test was handed out and it turned out it was just 4 opinion based questions and there were no wrong answers. 🙂 But it didn’t matter anyway, because right as we started, you said, “You know, why doesn’t everyone just do this as a take-home test and bring it back tomorrow!” What a relief. So instead you basically hosted a chocolate party, with selections from SOMA in Toronto. It was great! Well, until someone stole my box of chocolates, anyway. 🙁

I’ve definitely become of fan of Bablet since you first exposed us to his work.

This one, from his website, is my favorite thus so far.

My favourite is the Old Man Logan cover, but I’m probably biased, because Wolverine is my favourite character.

Oh, and just a correction, that’s not Snake Plissken, given that he has both eyes, it’s Jack Burton, wearing the same old shirt, only more tattered and faded.

The Elephantmen and Old Man Logan covers are outstanding. OML is definitely old school. And Milk Man is simply terrifying. 😛

Have you seen Broadchurch? We started watching Monday on a recommendation from a friend, and were immediately hooked. The show is absolutely brilliant in all aspects. We’re three episodes into season 3 already because we just cannot stop watching. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2249364/?ref_=nv_sr_1

You had me at Big Trouble & John Carpenter! Though the cover doesn’t grab you like Logan or Flash, it is afterall Kurt Russell!! Long live Jack Burton!
