  1. Sounds like a great birthday, even if it did start with cleaning up crap. At least it was literal (this time). I’d much rather that than the figurative stuff.

Akemi does look a little distracted.

  2. MMmmmmmmmmmmmmm, mac and cheese and pizza!!

So much better then what I had tonight, tuna casserole and green beans….and enough ketchup to be able to swallow it.

  3. Happy Birthday Joe!! Beautiful cake!

Hey look, it’s Carl and that guy (I’m snapping my fingers) from that “other” (I’m winking) TV show!

  4. Happy Birthday Joe ! You got away before the big windstorm….three boulevard trees down on our block, but no damage to your place or ours.

  5. Happy Birthday Joseph. Cake looks amazing along with all your other food choices. What a way to celebrate

  6. Happy Birthday 🙂 Hope you had an amazing day and all the best for the coming year!!!

  7. Wow! Love that Stargate cake! Lots of details, especially the puddle. So glad you treated yourself to some good food and lovely company. Hi Akemi (waves)!

Hugs to Lulu and Bubba and enjoy your b-day week!

    Dinner at piano piano. (((yum))).
And your lunch choice most definitely gave me cravings.
Good thing i had some of my own in the house!

Very glad you weren't in Van. during storm or you would have been forced to spend your bday the same as i last week. Though I did make up for it Saturday night with excellent company and a most outrageous belated celebration!

  9. @PBMom Hope book club was fun! and Thanks! No worries. If you sent them a note saying it was for Scrappy’s care I’m sure the treasurer will get it and apply it properly. <3

  10. Yep, Happy Birthday Joe!
That cake does/did look amazing! What kinda cake was it ….. ?
Ooo. What’s in the red bag, Akemi?

  11. G’day

Happy Birthday you old fart. Hope your day and week is filled with much joy.

Just been catching up on the blog. I am much more a cat person, we have three, but now we have a dog as well, at my daughter’s insistence. We got him from a rescue group. He is a darling, American Staffy cross (crossed with what, we have no idea). But he is gorgeous and we all love him – not so much the cats though, especially my ten year old ginger boy…lol

@Line Noise – what part of Australia? I live in North Queensland.

  12. Awwww it looks like you had a wonderful birthday… you deserve it Joe! 😘 All the best for the rest of the year.

I used to share my birthday with my cat Sasha. I adopted her via a birthday gift from my two friends. Even thought she was approximately 6 weeks (I was never quite sure) old I always celebrated when she was adopted.

    Cheers, Chev

  13. Happy Birthday! Looks like a great day.

My husband’s birthday was on Saturday, we spent the weekend up the canyon at Wolf Creek resort. Went on a nice little hike, and to a local food tasting event, and lunch at No Frills Diner, which serves only breakfast and lunch. Great burgers and amazing onion rings. Low key and pleasant weekend.

  14. I just caught up on over 2 weeks of blog posts… wow I’ve missed so much. Major *hugs* for Lulu…. I would probably sleep on the floor with her… if you could borrow a small mattress.

I’m not sure why people hate particular animals. Perhaps they had a bad experience, although I had one and it didn’t make me hate them. I’ve never had a dog but I always made friends with dogs on the street. One time I was attacked by a dog as I was walking to school. I was 11. I had to testify in court to decide the dog’s fate.

It’s good to see the Dark Matter crew back together again. Ivon looks well. I hope you sorted out your email issue.

Those Buca pizzas look delicious. I want to revisit.

So, I’ve started renovating my bathroom. It’s slow work. I’ve been lifting tiles the past week. Mosaic tiles ugh!!! After I clean up the area I’ll leave the rest to the professionals.

    Time to zzzzzzz

    Cheers, Chev

  15. Mm, that substitute birthday cake is making me hungry this morning. Glad you had a fun day.

I’ve been thinking about S2’s cliffhanger. Are you going to pull out an Omega 13 device for a do-over in S3?

    Lulu still feeling better?

  16. Happy Birthday! Wishing you a wonderful birthday week which I see is starting off with great food and friends galore. Best wishes to Mr. Carl B, I miss Cedar Cove, what is Mr. Binder up to?

Hugs to awesome Lulu and dapper Bubba, I’m off to catch up on older posts after a week of plumbing, plastering and painting hell. Painters came again at the crack of dawn which means I vacated my apt super early. Did you know the streets and buses are totally empty before the sun comes up?

Meanwhile I’m now Murphy Brown with painters who can’t seem to finish the world’s tiniest bathroom and closet.

  17. Happy Birthday, Joe!

Here’s to hopefully looking forward to some really interesting birthday-week dinners with some special guests!

    -Mike A.

  18. Happy birthday Joe! That cake is amazing!

So has anyone ever mistakenly thought you were named Bubba? Looking at Akemi’s phone case, it could happen.

  19. Happy birthday, Joe!

This is truly amazing, you having been born the same day as I. And you still updating your blog every single day, after almost 10 years. I have been following you and your food ‘obsession’ back in the Stargate days, and just rediscovered it all after having watched Dark Matter so far. Congrats on the progress you made, for still having your pugs and Akemi around.

    Greetings from Austria,

    Michael
