The first time I visited the wardrobe department, I noticed the photo of the dog on the back wall. I thought it was amusing, didn’t think anything of it until the next time I visited and noticed the second photo. I dismissed them as “funny dog pictures”. Until, on my third visit, I noted they weren’t just “funny dog pictures”. They were “funny dog pictures” on point. Each, it would turn out, was a thematic reflection of every one of our thirteen episodes.
Over the course of the season, I snapped pics of the pics and, today, I present to you a rundown of the Dog Days of Dark Matter…

Of course. We introduce our spaceship-themed series.

The crew helps a mining colony battle a ruthless corporation.

The Android takes an EVA stroll topside.

TWO and FIVE play a little blackjack – and kick a little ass.

But of course the “infected” weren’t zombies. They just looked a lot like ’em.

Our introduction to the Ryo Ishida backstory. Palace intrigue abounds!

Androids (“Robots!” to quote THREE) were the focus of this episode.

Transfer Transit!

FOUR goes back to his roots; slices and dices.

Heisting a mystery device from a research facility.

Things get kind of messy in this episode’s closing minutes.

That’s what they called this individual before – and after this episode.

Suspicions mount. Alliances shift. It all comes undone.
Questions for Alex: Where were you when you found out you got the role and how surprised or shocked were you when you heard? How many call backs did you have to do? Have you always wanted to be an actor? By the way, you are doing a great job…can’t wait to see the final 2 episodes of the season. Have my fingers crossed for a season 2!
Small typo Joe, you obviously mean Bark Matter..
@Betty Manders: Heh, “Bark Matter”.
Anyways, those last two dog pics are indeed intriguing. Unfortunately, I have to go away to NH for the weekend volunteering so I’m going to miss it airing live! Ack! That’s terrible timing for me, Joe. Can you get them to change that? 🙂 So, I’ll have to try to remain spoiler free until I can get home and watch it.
Not really a question for Alex, but a comment: Alex, I just wanted to say thanks for the great job you do on Dark Matter and you really bring the character to life. Also, thanks for your on-line presence (and patience) with fans on Twitter. FOURCLAN FOUREVER! 🙂
Oh, I do have a question: Do you miss doing the “Dance of the Day” video clip as much as we do watching it? 🙂
@Betty Manders – LOLOLOL! You win the blog tonight! 😀 *cyber fist bumps*
😀
das
I’m late in weighing in. I loved the episode. It was a great way to reveal to Two she was something else. She got just one hint, then got some time alone to think about it.
I thought she’d turn out to be transformed by the zombie virus. I should have known the zombie thing was wrong because Android didn’t push her to donate antibodies for science.
How she gets back in is fun to watch. I don’t think you’d have to notice she was jettisoned toward the skin of the ship when the most dramatic backdrop for being jettisoned is toward space to know the only “woman” in an ensemble show isn’t getting killed off.
This way, there’s even more reason for everyone to hunt her down fiercely. Before, she was just a badass bordering on serial killer. Now, she’s a banned weapon actively out there killing. Maybe she needs to take it down a notch, lay low.
The reason I was thinking she was the biggest psychopath was her intolerance of boredom. And the prolific killing, perhaps. I may have misinterpreted some bits of episode 7. She’d chased Three down, but he showed he didn’t want to talk to her. She came up with another explanation for chasing him down, to urge him to talk to Sarah. Then, she went to One’s quarters. Rewatching, she maybe hadn’t gone TO One’s quarters, but was maybe passing them at that time. I can tend to see the actions of leaders through shit-colored glasses.
Come to the Bark Side…..we have biscuits.
Cute pictures, Joe.
@Betty Manders: Bark Matters. That was excellent!
@ Betty Manders – 😆 😆 😆 Too funny! I quickly went back up and looked to see if Joe had changed his title!
I’m convinced SyFy is taking their time because they plan on ordering a second season containing more than 13 episodes. They have a lot of paperwork to do. Joe how would that screw up your 5 year plan? Did you hear the Giant Panda had twins! You put a Panda on your blog and cause twins to be born! I know that means SyFy will announce your renewal any day now. When they do, show a picture of a beagle howling at the moon. My beagle certainly barks loud enough to hear her on the moon!
I see the makings of a great “CALENDAR”! — And possible “Holiday”-stocking-stuffer for the Crew..? — Actually, start gathering a collection of “single”-socks – [suitable for canine-chewing] – and pop in a “BARK” MATTER CALENDAR…
Whatever. I’m sure they’d sell at any of the Cons… Would also make a good fund-raiser item.
Bark Matter…Hahaha…
Betty Manders: 😆
“Bark Matter” HAHAHAHAHA! Thank you for my morning smile.
And thank you, Joe, for all the cute doggy photos. {tail wags} 🙂
Joe, guess who has the highest rated Friday show(In the 18-49 demo) 2 weeks running now? You do! You rebounded.
Episode 11 ratings 0.96 million. 0.26(Rounds to a 0.3) 18-49 rating.
Defiance got a 0.24 and Killjoys a 0.21.
SyFy’s Blaster news site is not that optimistic about Dark Matter:

I hope they are wrong. This is one of the best shows on TV right now.
Just watched the clip of Wil Wheaton on Dark Matter from the Entertainment weekly site, tried to copy and paste,,but didn’t work… Looking forward to seeing the rest of the storyline..
LOL Betty Manders Bark Matter. Boomer approves.
That episode 3 one looks like it is from Space Buddies, which Mark Savela worked on. I can’t believe I am this far behind….again… heavy sigh.
