SyFy’s Dark Matter Brings The Badass Ladies In Force:
Space Opera is Set for a New Dawn with Dark Matter:
“Dark Matter’s 13-episode first season is destined to be an action-packed mix of drama, humour and adventure in the mould of Stargate and Firefly. Any similarity to the former is not coincidental given that Mallozzi and Mullie have a long history with that franchise.”

Zoie Palmer Brings Dark Matter’s Android to Life:
“I’m always drawn to the underdog a little bit, I’m drawn to those characters that are a little bit outside, a little bit quirky, a little bit disconnected. I think there’s a ton of places you can go. Even on Lost Girl I think every character felt a little bit like an outsider. It was a group of outsiders. They all sort of found each other and connected in that way.”
Melissa O’Neil and Antony Lemke talk Dark Matter:
“When we started shooting, absolutely we were. We had read a number of episodes ahead as actors but one of the things that Joe and Paul did very, very well was keep secrets. Boy did they ever.”
Anthony Lemke talks Dark Matter:
“Thematically for the show, you have the two poles, in a way, of how to approach life,” Lemke explained. “We have the side that is very moral, and the other is very instrumental. Whatever you can do to live another day is kind of what my character is all about.”

Another teaser promo from the gang at Space Channel: “I can save us all…if you let me.”
Dark Matter – Pilot – Technical Previews: “Visuals”…
“Dark Matter is poised to gallantly launch us all back into space and the visuals the show provides are a very big part of what makes this show so unique.”

By my reckoning, it’s now less than 26 hours before Dark Matter premieres. It’s hard to imagine that at this time last year it wasn’t even a go yet. But a lot can happen in a year (to put it mildly) and one of the best things has been the creation of this show – I’m sure it will be great and you know you have a dedicated viewer here!
I’m still here getting ready to move, and getting a little stressed out. It’s coming down to the wire when I actually have to get out of here, and of course there’s several little things popping up to add to the stress. For example, it turns out that there’s still a mortgage attached to this house – that wasn’t mine. (Mine was paid off several years ago.) So, that’s been hanging around out there for 21 years. Anyway, the lawyer said they will handle it. And they should, that’s what they’re getting paid for.
Wish me luck over the next few days!
Have a lot going on.. but I am excited for the show tomorrow and sharing the news hoping others watch too.
Sending good luck wishes your way. @ Gforce
~Wow Joe, those are sure a lot of links to go to, but way cool to read it all.! Got the popcorn and all that great food you have for the football games ready to go?. A viewing party, yes, soon…….tomorrow we will need a BIG drumroll..
~@gforce, I wish you a smooth journey to your new location, no bumps.
@gforce: isn’t that what title company’s are supposed to do? Find out about unpaid mortgages before you buy a house? I’m glad your lawyer is going to take care of it.
Ooooh! in just 24 hours I’ll be watching Dark Matter. My daughter is now interested. I showed her the Galactic Authority space ship. She likes the idea of space police.
It’s my Dad’s Birthday tomorrow… [actually, it’s right NOW! – just looked at the time] – And, unless it’s “Space”-*HOCKEY*, I won’t be using his TV set… Or, Mom’s as I hogged her set tonight watching soccer! — Anyone know when the SPACE “replay” is scheduled?
Joe are you nervous? Super excited? All the reviews have been awesome! This is going to be a hit. I’m sure of it. Are you going to wait for feedback before writing season 2?
The hospital does not have SyFy. At least I didn’t see it when searching tonight. My mom is the same. Since they can’t find her trouble, and she is weak, they are sending her to a skilled nursing rehab facility. I researched then picked one out tonight. It looks so nice I might move in too! Pretty sure they will get the SyFy channel.
Thank you for the kind words, thoughts, and prayers baterista9 (hope you are feeling better), Sparrow_hawk, PBMom, maggiemayday, Tam Dixon, and Denise McInerney. This weekend I have to concentrate on my 90 year old dad and what he is eating. He is lost without my mom.
Needless to say, the Dark Matter series premiere of my new favorite show is the highlight of my week! I can’t wait to watch it at 9 pm and 12 am!!
Ooops, I forgot to add…
@ gforce – Good luck! Moving is the easiest way to dust everything in your house… 🙂
Good luck, gforce. Been there.
Good luck to all those involved in bringing DARK MATTER to screens around the world!
Good news! The migraine has gone away! I’ll tune in Friday night as long planned!
Joe, a “no rush” question: Five’s hair tint is teal green over Jodelle’s dark brunette? Just noodling around on Amazon for potential costume wig. 😎
DM – DVR programmed, phone will be on silent, front door barricaded, need puter on twitter – but may be difficult to concentrate on tweeting and watching all that action unfold. Sure do not want to miss anything.
That’s the beauty of DVRing stuff for re-watching. And, there are the extra viewings too. OH yeah, and snacks…..woooohooooo, what a ride.
US and Canada only for the comp… suck
Exciting day! Popcorn, aye!
gforce, blows my mind that an old mortgage can be lurking … leaky pipes, foundation cracks, old furnace, yeah, those I get, but old mortgages … eek.
Melissa is from Calgary, hu? Go Stampede! So there is a possible musical episode come maybe Season 3? Have not see that since a Scrubs episode.
Has Melissa seen any of yours and Paul’s previous works? When Amanda Tapping was on set, did Amanda impress Melissa with her thespian experience?
Today is the Day!. But I will be at work so watching presents problems.
My DVR is set, but I’ll be watching live tonight at 10 as well. Can’t wait, Joe! Congratulations!
Gforce: How could that happen? Sparrow_hawk is right on about title companies. I believe they even made us take out title insurance, if I remember correctly. Good luck with the move!!!
baterista9: I hope you’re feeling better. Migraines are no fun! Usually I feel great the day after a flare. It shocks people to see me so sick and the next day, be so ravenous. No one expects someone my size to out eat everyone the next day. 😉 Praying it’s the same for you.
Ponytail: How is your mom? How are you and your dad?
I gave my notice to hubby on the vbs gig tonight. I want a night off to watch Dark Matter live!!!! Tonight is the big close up event at vbs, so not much actual work is going to happen. I was getting the hang of child wrangling though. I still think cats/dogs are easier. 😉
Prayers it goes smoothly tonight Mr. M! Oh and how are the pups doing? Are they still missing Ms. Jelly?
Congratulations on the birth of your new “baby.” 🙂 My Dark Matter Live Long and Prosper.
That was supposed to read, “MAY Dark Matter…”
The Dark Matter premiere is less than 12 hours away! So exciting!
Yeah, that mortgage thing was weird. You would think SOMEONE would have picked up on it after 21 years. I suspect it was paid off, but the bank never processed the actual docs that closed the mortgage. Anyway, the lawyer’s office didn’t seem worried.
Hey, Joe! Will Dark Matter be on Hulu? A friend asked and I did not have an answer.
Argggh! I typed “company’s” instead of “companies” in my email to gforce and am embarrassed. I was self-editing what I and written and didn’t get everything changed.
@GForce Best wishes that everything goes smoothly.
@Ponytail It’s hard being a caregiver, especially to two aging parents. You will remain in our prayers.
@Baterista I really hope things start turning around for you. I will keep you in my prayers, too.
Now, here is the FANTASTIC NEWS!!! My two clients cancelled for this weekend so that means I will be able to live tweet on time with the east coast viewing parties. I’m so happy about that. I love being caught up in all the excitement.
Well, here we are. June 12th. Today is premiere day. It’s been a long time coming and it’s been a long, long journey to get here, but you finally made it.
How does it feel? I know you’ve already “seen” pretty much the entire season, but I imagine when each episode airs, and you get a bit of the fan reaction, it still affects you, however slight.
I really think that outside of it being a potentially fantastic show in and of itself, you’re also hitting the market at damn near the perfect time. There really aren’t any other really fun, space based sci-fi shows out there currently running right now. You’re really filling a void, thematically, and people are just now realizing what they’ve been missing. I think that’s a small portion of the reason why so many people are reviewing DM so well. Well, that and the fact that it’s probably hilarious and beautiful and of course, well written(15+ seasons on the SG franchise prove that alone).
Can’t wait to watch it live tonight. It’ll be a blast being excited each week to watch a new sci-fi show. Reminds me of when I first saw SG on Showtime! Let’s hope the numbers are huge, like they should be!
Looking forward to tonight. BTW, Dark Matter had a half page write-up in the Toronto Sun.
I know I’ve posted this before, and of course it’s the theme for a different show, but still. I think it applies today…
“Joe, are you still going to live tweet the show? Using what hashtag, #DarkMatterTV?”
I certainly will. I’ll be mentioning at the end of today’s blog entry, but we’ll be using the #DarkMatter hashtag.
Soo, there are no real episode titles in Dark Matter. It seems to become a new trend of sorts, Broadchurch has been doing the same for two years now. But I never quite understood why writers (or whoever decides on those titles) prefer that. Sure, sometimes it can be super hard to find a good title, but on the other hand, the titles often can add even more humor, even more depth or even more excitement. For Dark Matter, what reasons made you guys get rid of the titles?
Oh, and a SGU question: Were Were Ellie and Jason (SGU 2×17/18) supposed to be just good friends, brother and sister or were they together? Because when the drones attacked in 2×17, he put his arm around her like they were pretty close.
Speaking of SGU. After those years now and with the reboot to come, it’s pretty sure we won’t get any official ending to SGU. So could you finally reveal the planned SGU ending? Or at least give some hints to what was planned? You once said it was up to Brad, hoping that you guys got a chance to tell the full story at some time, but that those chances are around zero right now. 🙁 So, if it’s still up to Brad, how can we ask him?
