Akemi: We have to turn on the humidifighter.
Me: You mean humidifier.
Akemi: No, humidifighter. It fights against dryness.
Akemi was thrilled today as she received delivery of the custom keychains she ordered from http://www.benir.gallery.
Along the same lines, I’m having this place – http://www.knottytie.com – to make me a couple of custom ties based on Hieronymus Bosch’s The Garden of Earthly Delights.
If this one works out, I might expand my wardrobe of weird classic artwork-themed ties…
The Nightmare by John Fuseli.
The Scream by Edvard Munch.
The Smiling Spider by Odilon Redon.
Medusa by Caravaggio.
I’d consider them conversation starters.
Haha Akemi is so funny. Cute shirt by-the-way.
I like your taste in art. I just so happened to see The Nightmare piece featured in TV series, The Fall, the other night.
I don’t consider the paintings as weird at all. My late father was a photographer & artist. He was more into still life Impressionism. He instilled in me to appreciate all types of artwork.
That Akemi-ism should be a slogan for some brand of humidifier – ‘Humidifighter – it FIGHTS against dryness!”
I actually have several art ties that I bought years ago, including Van Gogh’s “Starry Night”, and Munsch’s “The Scream”. I would wear the Scream one anywhere to any meeting/affair that I thought was going to unpleasant, as a subtle cry of protest. Haven’t worn them for ages, since I don’t really wear ties anymore.
gforce beat me to it: “The Scream” is already available. My lab manager wears it to work sometimes, for much the same reason as gforce.
So which part of the Bosch are you going to get made into a tie, Joe?
And from now on I will be calling it a humidifighter, too. 😉
Engineering firms (especially the defense related ones) tend to be very conservative dress-wise, so my tie collection reflects that. And now that the dress convention is more relaxed, no one believes I’m the technical expert if I wear a tie. The only time I wear a suit and tie anymore is when I’m presenting a paper, or at a wedding or funeral.
Still, if I had to wear a tie, I might ask John Picacio to make a few from his artwork:

I think Akemi needs to reinvent the English language. Her ‘Akemisms’ make more sense than the correct words. Mebbe she should get a job with Oxford. 🙂
das
I’m with Das. Where was Akemi when they were making up words? Humidifghter is perfect and exactly what it is.
I love all art. But my favorite is Impressionism and Post Impressionism, artists like the great Van Gogh, Cezanne, Seurat, Manet, Monet, Picasso.
Me too…I’m gonna start referring to the humidifighter!
I’ve always been a fan of Caravaggio’s Judith Beheading Holofernes:

But I’m not a tie wearer so I’d have to get it on a T-Shirt instead.
Damnit!

@The Smiling Spider
Great picture, but I personally really hate large spiders, never have liked them and never will.
Anyway the new anime season starts this week, off the top of my end the ones that interest me outright are Nagato Yuki-chan no Shoushitsu, Gunslinger Stratos, Plastic Memories, Kekkai Sensen, Hibike! Euphonium, Nisekoi(Season 2) and maybe one or two others. It doesn’t look like a bad season. I saw that Gintama(I think Season 4?) starts April 8th too. I kinda enjoyed Death Parade it had a great ending, and Aldnoah Zero was okay too.
Humidifighter? I LOVE it! You really should keep a log of Akemi-isms. Maybe one day, turn them into a book. I’d buy it.
Pugaliscious keychains!
Akemi looks darling in her new do! Humidifighter: Love it! Although, my spell check is not happy. 🙂
Adore Akemi’s new hair cut. Love her shirt, too. I would think an interesting tie would be fabulous. Jeff and Patrick only wear ties to weddings and funerals. Oh, and court.
@ PBMom – Court??? Ha! Mischievous ones are they?
