I love working with talented people. Pleasant talented people? Even better. Pleasant talented people who also happen to be scifi fans? Best of all! Such is the case with Dark Matter Set Designer Doug Slater. He’s a good guy, great at what he does, AND loves SF. And his love for the genre is clearly evident in his work. When the time comes, I’ll show you a couple of the video 3D walk-thrus he did of our bridge set. And he’s currently working on a video 3D walk-thru of the entire ship! That, like the man himself, is all kinds of awesome.

And this one in which he engages hapless telemarketers. Baron Destructo would be proud! http://dougvsthephone.wordpress.com
Nice shirt, Doug! It appears you are not only a man of many talents, but of exquisite taste. Looking forward to more updates from you Joe. 😀
His work looks really good, I see he did some work on the Resident Evil Retribution movie, while I thought the movie was pretty average, his designs looked quite good. You’re lucky to have him.
Hey Joe
I see he does time travel as well.
Since it’s now Friday, I get to see the Packers win all over again!

Hi Joe,
Any idea how big this ship going to be? really looking forward to this!
On a side note (I know your very busy and away from home) but did you have any luck finding the order of the 9 symbols used to dial Destiny from Icarus?
Cheers!
Welcome Doug the Slugger to Joe’s very cool family.
Hi Doug! 😀
Please tell Mr. Slater that Six should have room in her cabin for at least one hand drum. 😉
Hello Doug! You are one talented fella! I can’t wait to see your designs come to life on the mid-screen.
Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!
It is a fun and exciting time here. The work is happening at a rapid pace. Poor Joe seems to be handling the quick dip into sup zero weather well.
Sweet! If you have the opportunity, you should do a time lapse of the build.
Wow, Doug does good work! There are so many people behind the scenes. You must have their names written on your hand for a while (until you memorize them all).
Elminster: 😆
It’s been a strange day here. I ripped off part of my toenail in karate class. Then spent most of the class cleaning up blood off the dojo floor. It can only get better from here, right?
Okay, I’m in love with Doug. He’s my new boyfriend (unless Will Waring shows up, then Doug is out the door!). I can tell he is about my age, he’s an artist, I’m an artist. He seems nice and very easy-going, I’m nice and easy-going. (yes I am, dammit!) Hey Doug, ELO does rule!
Oh shoot!! @A fan has a great idea! You are filming a time lapse of all the set building, aren’t you? Aren’t you???!
I am looking for info on the Emperor’s family crest. What were the crests used as inspiration? Does it have a resl meaning? etc…
