Like me, my dogs are homebodies.  Jelly is dog bed-ridden while Bubba and Lulu…don’t play well with others.  Oh, sure, Jelly enjoys her daily half-block walks.  Bubba loves his trips to the farmer’s market.  And Lulu may be ambivalent to other dogs, she likes nothing better than to meet people.  And so, when I heard that the local French Bulldog Meet-Up group was having a birthday part for one of their own, I thought it might be a great opportunity for Lulu to get out and socialize.

A rundown of the festivities…

August 18, 2014: A Walk In The (dog) Park!

Her M.O. is so predictable.  The first thing she does when she gets through the park gate is to hop onto the nearest bench and crawl onto someone’s lap.

  1. Wow, pretty pooches! Yes, I would be worried about paper cut eyeballs too. Cringe, just thinking about it. Glad y’all had a good time! So sorry Miss Jelly couldn’t go…. 🙁 How is the acupuncture working for her? Did the vet recommend some kind of physical therapy for her?

Das: Love the way your mind works!

I’ve finished painting the walls of my foyer (18ft ceilings) and only fell down the stairs once. Nothing broken but my legs are black/blue with little purple spots (from the Aleve). Now, on to painting the trim…..

  2. Lulu is such an actress. You need to give her a part in your new tv series. She is really milking the “I can hardly walk in this gravel” sympathy plea. Poor Jelly Belly. She doesn’t have to be dog bed-ridden. Get her a little back legs wheel chair cart and she’ll be back in business.

@ Tam Dixon – When you finish painting your foyer and are not too badly injured, come paint my living room next. I have those darn high ceilings too. But no problem. When I set the ladder on top of the coffee table so you can reach better, I’ll hold it for you. (Hey, it worked for me last time I painted. 🙂 )

  3. When my dog sneezes, I will say, “ooooh poor baby!! Did you sneeze?!!” Then she’ll fake another sneeze and I’ll say it again. She’ll keep faking sneezes just to hear me say it and get my attention.

  4. @Tam Dixon: And when you’re done with Ponytail’s ceilings you can come and do mine. I’ve only got 7ft ceilings! No ladder required.

  5. It would seem to me to be an extremely successful birthday party! Yes, your fur-babies would prefer to be the center of attention. But this is great!

  6. LuLu’s MO is great… she’s not stupid. DOGS can pet her or sneak her treats. She knows where to go 🙂

  7. Ponytail & Line Noise: 😆 I hate painting, so I did the worst room first! I’m lucky it was the stairs (they have carpet). The day before that, the extension ladder started sliding when I was at the top, and down below was ceramic tile. That would have been….very bad.

  8. Lulu is quite the little character. She’s always been my favourite of your pups. She kinda sorta reminds me of my kitty Cola, who is black and fluffy and I think they’re the same age..? Cola was born around the beginning of July 2007. We celebrate her birthday on Canada Day. She’s a Canadian Cat, and she also commandeers laps. Anyway, I love that pic of Lulu you posted several years ago of her sliding off a chair while snoozing, so that her nose is almost smooshed on the floor and her back legs are splayed out behind her.

  9. Joe, I think it’s a distinct possibility that with Lulu, you may have a dedicated attention ho on your hands!

  10. Loved the party. Reminded me of one we had some years ago. We purchased a birthday kit from the Humane Society and invited all our friends with dogs to help celebrate our dog’s birthday. The kit even had dog masks for the owners plus a bone shaped cake. Not sure what the cake was made of but it was definitely a hit with the birthday boy and his friends. So now that you know Lulu likes parties can she expect one of her own?

  11. OMG, you are my sister, pre real kids. lol Her dogs were her children until she adopted. Now they are just dogs. Okay, I know that was mean. 😛 But seriously, your Lulu is adorable. And it cured my hounding curiosity regarding doggy birthday parties. Thanks. Please don’t be mad at me. 😀

  12. Lulu’s gravel-shamble is Vine worthy, so funny and adorable! And yep I also have trouble walking on gravel, sand, cobblestones; there is no surface that I haven’t slipped on, I never grew into my giraffe-on-roller-skates legs.
