THE AMAZING SPIDERMAN 2
Release Date: May 2, 2014
What it’s about: Spiderman takes on Electro and…Voltron?
What it’s got working for it: The visual effects looks pretty good. And it’s always great to see a new super villain on the big screen.
What’s it’s got going against it: Not loving the updated Electro. Also, the first movie felt like an unnecessary reboot. Can the sequel move beyond the “been here, scene that” vibe of the first?

LEGENDS OF OZ: DOROTHY’S RETURN
Release Date: May 9, 2014
What it’s about: Dorothy returns to Oz to save her old friends from the villainous Jester.
What it’s got working for it: Some impressive voice talent.
What’s it’s got going against it: The trailer looks…fine. There’s the suggestion she teams up with new friends to rescue the old ones from the Jester. Does this mean she won’t be doing any actual adventuring with the old gang? 🙁

BLENDED
Release Date: May 23, 2014
What it’s about: Two single parents agree to never meet again following a disastrous blind date – only to run into each other, and their respective kids, at an African resort.
What it’s got working for it: Sure, it’s an Adam Sandler romcom, but so was The Wedding Singer?
What’s it’s got going against it: And so were every other Adam Sandler romcom. Also, cloying kids. Also, the trailer looks terrible.

MALEFICENT
Release Date: May 30, 2014
What it’s about: The witch from Sleeping Beauty, who may not have been so wicked after all.
What it’s got working for it: It’s interesting that Disney is jumping on the anti-hero bandwagon.
What’s it’s got going against it: Do I really care about Maleficent and her story? Not so much.
I’m excited about Spider-Man and Godzilla. I agree that other Godzilla was awful. I actually fell asleep watching it. In the theater, too. I have some hope that this one will be better. Maleficent may be fun. I’m going to give it a try. Although I am a wee bit obsessed with dragons. They usually sucker me in to things.
Hey everyone, are you aware of the next Ridley Scott sci-fi drama coming to HBO? Have a look:

Although the term “Stargate rip-off” applies, I would watch this, if I subscribed to HBO, but I do not. Anyone want to record it and share?

I loved 50 First Dates, so I’ll definitely go to see Blended. Sleeping Beauty is one of my favorites, so Maleficent is a go, too. 🙂
My comment seems to have gone AWOL. Godzilla is a must-see for me. This one looks like it might be pretty good. The only one I really despised was the one where they turned poor Godzilla into a chameleon who laid lots of eggs in the subway (or something).
Do I really care about Maleficent and her story? Not so much.
i second that. it’s as if the executives at disney had a meeting (or possibly a focus group) about what villain from the classic disney movies to a live-action movie on.
Just a quick comment on the Godzilla movies: Which recent one(s) didn’t you like? I thought Godzilla:Final Wars really got into the spirit of the old movies. Aliens trying to conquer Earth. Godzilla fighting scads of giant creatures. Yeah, it was corny and the baby ‘zilla was a little much but I thought it was fun. Goofy in a good way. I expect the new Godzilla movie is going to be considerably darker.
I’m really excited about X-Men. I’m tired at HOW MUCH trailers reveal in them. The movie and tv studios need to STOP doing that. Sci-Fi did that with SGA with the reveal of Carson in Kindred Part 2. Right now, the trailer for How To Train Your Dragon 2 has given WAY too much away. I try to avoid watching a lot of that now.
I was disappointed by Spidey unfortunately. It was watchable and had some strengths but I didn’t think it was great on the whole. I wrote a spoiler free review if you want to check it out: http://davecsimpson.wordpress.com/2014/04/19/the-amazing-spider-man-2-a-spoiler-free-review/
Can’t wait for X-men, Godzilla and Neighbours – which for some strange reasons has been retitled Bad Neighbours on this side of the Atlantic. Cap 2 is gonna be tough to top for my favourite movie of the year though.
You didn’t like the first Amazing Spiderman, right? I liked the first one, so I’ll probably watch part 2. I’d like to see this new Godzilla also. Also on my “to see list” is Maleficent & X-Men but I’ll probably wait for the DVD. We went to see the new Caption America and the kids in the theater were extremely noisy. It was a good movie but I would have enjoyed it more on my couch.
glowyzoey: Losing a furry kid is extremely difficult for me, also. I try and think about all their quirky personality traits that I came to love. I’m also thankful that I could make a difference in their life, while I had them. Then I go rescue another little furry critter and try and try to make a difference for them too. I leave a little of my heart behind at each loss but what other option do I have? Each of these little souls need cherishing. Didn’t mean to depress you but just wanted to remind you what a difference you made in Roxy’s life. I’ve seen plenty of pets that weren’t cared for. You gave Roxy a happy home and love.
A friend who’s a huge Godzilla fan and I are looking forward to the new movie because at least the Godzilla actually looks like the old school Godzilla (and not the weird version from the last Godzilla movie) and the roar is GREAT!
I’m excited about Spiderman, Godzilla, XMen. Whether or not I actually get to watch them in the actual movie theater will be the feat in itself.
