I’m doing better today.  But I’m not taking any chances.  Thus, this was my lunch today:

Steamed rice with turmeric and ginger powder. Yum!

And these were a couple of the things I missed out on the last day of my trip:

Every time I walked by this little shop, there was a line-up. Finally, on my last day, there was no line-up. But i was in no condition to sample.

Between the jet lag and the stomach thing, I wasn’t feeling particularly ambitious today so I took it easy, reading the first couple of chapters of this very weird SF book someone is looking to adapt to the big screen, sending off payments, responding to emails, and keeping hydrated.  Oh, and spending quality time with the dogs.  They were thrilled to have us back, Jelly perhaps a little less so after being made to model the new Christmas outfit Akemi picked up for her in Omotesando:

Yes, it's Santa Pug.
Jelly’s WTF?! look

  1. Jelly’s look – priceless.
Welcome back Joe and Akemi to your comfy home.
    Feel better.

  2. Did you ever stop to think the reason for the long lines at Tokyo restaurants was because the population is so great and it was not necessarily the food? Maybe they loved going out for lunch during their workday. Glad to hear your salmonela or botulism is better. Get lots of rest.

  3. The rice sounds yummy! When I have ‘tummy’ troubles I put nutmeg in it (a natural anti-diarrhea aid), but ginger and turmeric sound good, and will work, too! Feel better!

    das

  4. Steamed rice with turmeric and ginger powder.
Known cure or just seeing eating what’s still in the fridge?

  5. Glad you are feeling a bit better today but take it slow. Jelly can come visit me in that Santa outfit and I’ll be giving HER presents.

Did you hear about the new land mass that form off Tokyo: http://rt.com/news/japan-sea-volcano-eruption-066/

So perhaps you were just feeling sympathetic birthing pain as the volcano gave birth to a new island. Did you know that my dog Sam threw up when I had contractions about 8 minutes apart? I have it on video. The afterwards part. I need to get those 8-mm camcorder tapes transferred to DVD someday (soon).

  6. Certainly hope you feel better soon. maybe getting back to a routine will help, remember to rest, I know you like to stay busy, busy… And those wafer cookies look like they might be good, maybe someone can recreate them in your kitchen?!? Jelly looks adorable!

  7. Feel better soon, Joe! One thing I always note about traveling is that it’s really nice to go away… and it’s really nice to get home. There’s something very comforting about sleeping in your own bed.

I will say that Jelly does look a little nonplussed at her Christmas outfit.

  8. Ouch Joe, that sounds bad. But good that you’re getting better. The last time I had stomach issues, my stomach was in pieces for days lol

  9. Poor Jelly! Although I am planning a trip to Michael’s to get supplies for making little Santa hats for our kitties, so who am I to talk? (Our dog is big enough to wear a human Santa hat, so she’s taken care of.)

  10. I tried my hand at Akemi’s gnocchi recipe but being me I used the internet to calculate grams of flour into cups and I ended up using a lot less flour than I should have. I set my gnocchi to boil and came back a few minutes later to find potato broth! Luckily I’d only used half the dough, so I fried up the rest in olive oil; next time I will use more flour. I’m excited to try again!

  11. in your oct. 29, 2013 entry you mentioned that ming-na was on the preliminary list of nominees for this year’s people’s choice awards. well, she made the finals. so if anyone wants to vote (favorite actress in a new tv series), go here; http://www.peopleschoice.com/pca/vote/votenow.jsp

i think voting ends on dec, 5 & you can vote several times.
a note to anyone who’s thinking of going though all of the categories to vote; if there’s no one you want to vote for you can click next category.

  12. Jelly is too cute modeling her Santa suit. I hope she has good representation. If she needs an agent let me know. Hope you are feeling better Joe.
