Thanks to everyone who took the time to offer tech advice on my printer issues (see yesterday’s blog entry).  As it turned out, astrumporta offered me the solution.  It was a simple matter of doing a little research, then downloading the old HP driver to match my antiquated operating system and voila!  I have a wireless printer.  And all it took was ALL DAY!

See, this is why I never drink scotch at TGI Fridays: Scores of TGI Fridays in New Jersey ‘busted for selling caramel-colored rubbing alcohol as… went to 63 New Jersey establishments they suspected were scamming customers, ordered drinks neat and then covertly took samples for testing. Of 150 samples collected, 30 were not the brand as which they were being sold.

  1. So glad my suggestion about the HP driver helped – I should’ve sent you the link to the older driver and not blathered on about upgrading your Mac OSX. But you should upgrade your OSX. 🙂

  2. Regarding the fake booze sold in New Jersey restaurants – my concern is if they are doing it there, it is likely going on in other centers. Maybe it’s time to just not buy alcohol in restaurants.

  3. Joe, the “top 5” vid won’t play on ipad. May we have a title list? Thanks.

  4. Hi there!

Hope all here are well. I’ve got an annoying head cold, on my birthday no less. But can’t complain, others have much worse. Took some cold medicine and I managed to get around to spend time with my Dad and sister. It was nice.

Thanks for sharing the 5 most underrated sc-fi movies Joe. I’d only seen Gattaca (which I love) and Serenity. Primer looks great. I’ll check it out. My brother swears that in a few years Prometheus will be recognised as a classic. I haven’t caught up with it yet. Have you?

Other than that I’m knee deep in the hockey, learning Creative Suite 6 (Cloud) and trying to keep up with all things web and social media at work. I swear there are not enough hours in the day.

    Take care.
    Cheers, Chev

  5. Guilty pleasure – yes, I used to watch wrestling, absolutely loved it. Haven’t watched it in years, but still, got to admit it. The last time I DID watch was the whole ‘let’s be real fighters!’ thing and yes, a fiasco. That was when I stopped. It’s not fun when it’s not fun.

  6. I’ve seen all but Dark City of the Top 5 underrated movies. I’d mostly agree that they’re underrated. Whether they’re masterpieces . . . I’m not so sure. I’ll have to check out Dark City.

    Here’s like list:

    5. Silent Running
    4. Gattaca
    3. Serenity
    2. Dark City
    1. Primer

I’d add The Hitch-hiker’s Guide To The Galaxy. I know a lot of HHGTTG fans hated it because it was so different from every other version that came before it but I loved it. I’m also surprised that Serenity is on the list because I don’t think it’s underrated. I thought it was rated quite highly.

  7. Oh, and I had no idea WTF was happening in Primer! I love thinking about the physics and consequences of time travel but most of Primer went over my head.

  8. Sparrow_hawk: It’s a good sign you felt like overdoing things. So sorry about the migraine.

Deni: Antibiotics Rock! Did you try the Mucinex? Glad you’re on the mend.

I’m not surprised on the bait and switch drinks. I’ve seen shows about the fish industry too. Bait and switch is probably in all products. I’ve heard stories from Hubby about bait & switch in computer consulting too. Even that whole dog food scandal was really a bait and switch. Sad.

I’m glad your printer is working. I hope it was worth the work.

  9. Good to hear you got the printer working. What version of OSX are you running? You should spring for the $30 for the upgrade!

  10. Hi Joe!!
Bethany is doing well. Recovery was a little rough but she came home yesterday (Friday). Today, she is having some visitors stop by. Thanks for mentioning her on your blog.
    Jen 🙂

  11. @ baterista9 –

    5. Silent Running 1972
    4. Gattaca 1997
    3. Serenity 2005
    2. Dark City (?)
    1. Primer 2004

I read the wrestling one first…don’t know why. I mostly never agreed with the “best and worst band photos”. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder…

  12. @Tammy: Mucinex and I don’t get along, but I’m glad the antibiotics worked. :)@Chev: Happy Birthday! xo

  13. Had to peek at the Wrestling – but these are too current. My “history” dates back to the 50s with the likes of Gentleman Jim Hady who was a fav. Then I discovered the “scripted” aspects where Jim was a bad guy in other states…sigh.

Sci Fi – Loved Serenity, enjoyed Gattaca
Did not like Silent Running and I cannot say why…guess I did not like Bruce Dern. Missed Dark City and Primer..although Primer sounds like it could be interesting.

For some reason…my ID rows are over lapping my message.
    we’ll see if it works.

  14. I like Gattaca. I’m from Costa Rica, i’m watching right now SG-Atlantis season 1, again, i have all SG-1 and Atlantis DVD´s, i can´t try to watch SG Universe, i can´t watch a show that was in part responsible for Atlantis cancellation, i bet probably is a good show, but i can´t watch it. I’ve been reading a little about the show and it has a few things don´t make sense like the Lucian Alliance like some super advanced enemy, really i don´t believe that.

  15. Belated happy birthday @Chev

    I liked Gattaca, too.

No need for me to worry about alcohol drinks because I’m allergic to alcohol. Yep. Not even alcohol in cold medicine. Gotta use all those imitation extracts, too. Can’t take me anywhere.
