Curse the Seattle Seahawks’ offensive line and the team’s inability to establish a running game. Thanks to them – and several other notable underachievers, my Snow Monkeys head into tonight’s Monday night game needing a monster night from both QB Matt Schaub and RB Arian Foster to pull off an unlikely week 8 victory. At this point, it’s not looking good. Thanks-for-nothings also go out to WR’s Dez Bryant and Brandon Marshall. Also, TE Tony Moeaki. As the regulation time was ticking down in the KC game, I was cursing myself for having unwittingly started an inactive player only to realize that Moeaki WAS active – but only in the theoretical sense. I’m hitting the waiver wire hard tomorrow.
Anyone watch the premiere of AMC’s The Walking Dead? That’s a rhetorical question because, in fact, MANY did. 5.3 million viewers is pretty damn impressive and, frankly, well-deserved. Beautifully shot and wonderfully written with great performances all around. And, have to agree with #1 zombie fan Ivon Bartok – those were probably the best-looking zombies I’ve ever seen. Creepy good!
Louis Ferreira (a.k.a. Stargate: Universe’s Colonel Everett Young) swung by my office today to say hi – giving me the opportunity to throw a few more of your fan questions at him. Today’s question –
How was it to have Robert Carlyle as a director for one episode of season two?
Great answer – up until he’s interrupted by my cellphone’s Yolandi Vi$$er ringtone…
Oooh, some interesting developments abound. A tricky first step finally negotiated. Less cryptic revelations to come!
Does that end part have to do with extinction….. Pretty please. 🙂
Thanks so much,
Major D. Davis
Thanks for continuing the Louis Ferreira Q&A. I needed that, today.
I’m with Major Davis – please let it be Extinction!
Louis rocks! literally
Col. Young is a little different here, I think. I think someone has been using the stones. Thats General O’Neill in Young’s body. Give us the real Young!
@Major D. Davis
I hope so… I was watching the Atlantis Blu-ray last night and damn do I miss the characters…
I would agree with you that the timing looks good for the movies with the season winding down and things looking up at MGM (The Hobbit began production).
We can only hope. Keep us in the loop.
Now that I am all excited!!!, I can’t wait to see what happens w/ SGU this week!
Best wishes,
Bryan
Sorry to hear about your Snow Monkeys, but was glad to see Louis Ferreira again. He was so funny!
Listen, I know some of you have been blog regulars longer than I have, but I figure as many thoughts and prayers as I can get would be helpful. My husband is having surgery for a peristomal hernia this Wednesday. They are hoping to be able to do it laproscopically, but the number of surgeries he has had before doesn’t make the surgeon optimistic. Thanks so much!
Not to be a buzzkill but what if it is the comic book deal??? 😉
That said: SGA movie… Please…
We can hope, can’t we??? 😉
Best Wishes,
Bryan
@Lisa: Sending prayers!
Thanks Joe for the Louis video. I’m on pins and needles to find out what you negotiated.
@Lisa R
Best wishes for yourself, and your husband during his surgery. I am sure it will all go well. I know from past experiences here that all us blog regulars send our best wishes.
Sincerely,
Bryan
Well, if it’s the comic book deal – Congrats!
Don’t forget Stargate SG1: Revolution, that was all set to go until MGM got into difficulties, hopefully now its also approaching a green light?
Wow, seems like AMC are doing fairly well with their own series recently.
Mad Men, Breaking Bad and Rubicon (which I loved – really hoping for a second series)
But – >5mil?? That’s 2.5 times what Rubicon got on debut and that had been their record!
Have to find out when it’s coming to Australia!
@ Lisa R – special prayers going out for your husband, for a successful surgery on Wednesday and a speedy, complete recovery.
The ever so handsome Louis Ferreira is pretty darn funny too. Love his “dance moves”.
“Tricky first step finally negotiated.” Hmmm. Interesting. Do tell.
Louis Ferriera, as an actor for theatre, I totally know what you mean about the Actors director. I hate directors that call out from the chair! Love them when they get on stage and show you how to do it, and work with you physically. Makes for a better show overall. Currently doing parts of “The Devils” for fellow student’s directing class, he is pretty good!
Joe, put this in the next mailbag please 🙂
Are Ascended ancients going to make it to the Destiny ever? Or are they already there, and just aren’t interacting because they aren’t allowed?
its a comic-book deal folks. SGA movie sure would like that but now, SGU is what I’m worried about.
Joe you are just plain weird. I love it!
You are like my brotha from a notha motha.
This, based on your ringtone. Ha!
No I did not watch Walking Dead. I do not watch movies like that. I do not watch SGU. Nor as I said SyFy since you and gang are not doing SGA Extinction. I liked your article on Halloween.
RE: Walking Dead – Nope. I prefer my horror a bit less graphic, otherwise I have nightmares.
RE: ‘Bobby’ Carlyle – Somehow, that just doesn’t sound right.
RE: Joey’s ringtone – WHAT the freakin’ hell was THAT??! It sounds like something an Asian schoolgirl would use on her Hello Kitty phone! I don’t care how secure you are in your manhood…Puh-LEASE get something a bit more studly!
😉
das
The Walking Dead premiere was awesome, and it’s totally deserving of all the high viewership (In AMC terms) it gets. Zombies looked kick-ass, but more than that, it’s the fact that there’s an actual television show on now that’s a character drama… set in a zombie apocalypse. Boo. Yah.
Hey Joe,
That was a GREAT answer…GREAT question…I LOVED the music ending..all those cool moves on Louis’ part “It’s all good..” as Ivon Bartok would say.
Best to you Joe,
Always,
Cheryl 🙂
hmmm, I am thinking I need to learn more smilie key strokes.
Haha, Louis is awesome.
Lisa: sending prayers and good wish vibes your way.
Sorry to hear about your Snow Monkey but my Blues WON!!!! It was soooooo good and I did it with Bryant who only scored 8.40, Kevin Walter who scored a big fat zero and the Chargers on D who also scored zero. How did I win? Well the other guy had a player with a bye in his starting lineup and his Tight End position was empty. I’ll take it…haha
We don’t have The Walking Dead here yet. I don’t know when we’ll get it. But I’m sure I’ll be hearing ALL about it every week…LOL…time to make some more Zombie Ivons I think.
Louis looks extra hot with long hair…just saying.
Looking forward to hearing about more revelations….is it Stargate related, comic related or personal or something else Joe?
Cheers, Chev
p.s. I won the Melbourne Cup and had 3 winners over the day….yay!!
@ Lisa R: Will keep your husband in our prayers. It will all turn out fine, you’ll see 🙂
Hi Joe!
Candy cigs! That brings back memories. I handed out Sweet Tarts & Nerds. I hate those.
I did NOT watching The Walking Dead & don’t intend to. Haven’t you had enough of zombies? My bursting point was Pride & Prejudice. And Zombies. And Abe Lincoln Vampire Hunter.
Thx for Q&A, finally I have a clue what’s wrong with the “SyFy” Channel.
DD
Das: (from yesterday) I understand about looking at the path we “thought” about taking. Good luck with the dig (I hope you sign up for it).
If you like Relic have you read any of Matthew J. Reilly’s books? He gets hi-tech, action filled and into archeology, as well.
Positive thoughts go out to Lisa R and getting it done by lap is so much fun afterwards when you can play connect the dots 🙂 Here’s hoping all goes well 😀
@Das
Have you read any of the other books in that series by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child? Personally, I liked the second book in the series the best. The reintroduction to Agent Pendergast in the second book was priceless. 😉
Best Wishes,
Bryan
It’s like I’ve been sayin’ all year; SGU needs more dancin’. The next time Rush and Young butt heads I want to see them do it West Coast style, breakin’ and boogalooin’ on the dance floor until only one challenger remains. And if the rest of the crew can dress in Mad Max chain mail regalia it would be the icing on the cake.
Obrigado to Mr. Ferreira for the Q&A, hope we can get to see more.
I am mosying my way through the Girl Who Played With Fire DVD; different director than Dragon Tattoo so not as gripping or haunting as Dragon, but still a good story.
The Halloween candy has finally arrived in our office! I will be attacking the Red Vines on my next trip to the break room.
You know what would be cool? A less cryptic revelation.
@Lisa R: Praying for your husband! Let us know how it goes.
@DP “You know what would be cool? A less cryptic revelation.”
yeah, what you said!
Joe, have you, or Siffy considered the correlation between tuesday evenings on syfy channel and World of Warcraft’s weekly schedule (where tuesday is the first day of once a week content).
with about 1 million people watching SGU, and over 2 million people playing wow in the US, and most of them fitting the same demographic, it may explain some of the reason for the drastic difference in ratings you stated earlier between the US (tuesday) and Canada (friday), where some people on tuesday are choosing to play wow, while people on friday are not.
It was an idea I had, and I wondered if it’s something ratings people think of.
Lisa, best wishes for a successful operation and smooth recovery for your hubby.
Tricky first step…
To loosening the log jam where the movies (SGA & SG1) are concerned….? Sounds like the first step to some good news. 🙂 , finally.
@ Lisa R Many healing thoughts for you hubby, calm and strength for you. I hate hernias.
@ Julie M Life is sweeter if you take the stick out of your ass.
Me? I’m grumpy, have a temp crown in, lots of anesthesia wearing off, headache and sore mouth, might have food poisoning, and I need to go vote and there’s not a single candidate I like on our Utah ballot. And my husband is out of town for a few weeks. Harumph. Harumph I say!!!!
Lisa… healing thoughts sent to your husbands.
LOL @ Maggiemayday… I was going to respond but you did it better.
I have caught up on episodes finally.. had been delaying to watch with DD but I give up, can’t stand it.
Sorry but not a lot of sympathy for Eli’s mom… what, she is going to DIE to punish him for not coming home? I have so many friends who died with AIDS, now we have the ability to prolong long relatively healthy lives and she just throws it away because she can’t find meaning other than holding onto her son? As a mother, the idea of dying and even for one moment letting my child think they were the cause… simply unacceptable.
I hope Chloe finds out he tried to blame her for the stops and shoves him out an airlock. One thing you can say though, he is utterly consistent in looking out for himself!
So Joe, all this time I am thinking Varro good guy… now not so sure. Could NOT understand what he said to the wacko guy before telling him to shut up. So spoil me… is Varro evil?
@ Lisa – All the best to you and Mr. Lisa!
@ Tammy Dixon & Bryan M. White – I have not read anything by Matthew J. Reilly, and this is my first Preston book (Mr. Das has read Riptide, and it may still be in the house somewhere). I’m just getting back into reading after many years of not being able to concentrate long enough to read the caption under a picture in the newspaper, let alone a book. I’ve never been an avid reader – I actually got into comic books in an attempt to read more and find some enjoyment in it. It wasn’t until I read the Elric saga, however, that I’ve been able to read and enjoy something without pictures. Needless to say, there’s hardly anything written in the last thirty years that I’ve read.
As far as Pendergast’s re-introduction in book two, I have heard it is something special. No idea what it is, but it has obviously left an impression on more than one reader. Looking forward to it! 🙂
das
@maggiemayday – ditto your comment @Julie M
Elminster
@ Julie Merritt
Isn’t it better to have some Stargate rather than none?? I mean I like SGA better as well, but SGU is still a very good show and I refuse to take out my anger on SGU because it had absolutely NOTHING to do with SGA’s cancellation.
@Lisa R
I’ll pray for you as well.. My Grandma just had a Hiatal hernia and I could see the pain she went through.. Supposedly they are “rarely” noticed because they don’t “usually” cause pain.. Anyway good luck with everything. 🙂
As a Seahawks fan, I’m more than saddened from Sunday’s game… It was so depressing.
