In case you missed it…
The news broke yesterday and the response has been huge. Not bad for a franchise that aired it’s last episode 14 year ago. Not surprisingly, the fans had a lot to say. There was excitement, jubilation, relief, cautious optimism, certain trepidation and, of course, questions. Lots and lots of questions. Where will the series shoot? Will we see any familiar faces? Are we going to find out what happened to Destiny and Atlantis? Does the Goa’uld hand device work for left-handed people too? Well today, I’d like to address these questions by telling you I am unable to address any of these questions at this time. For a few reasons.
First, word of the new series just broke yesterday and I’d like to allow the revelation to settle for a couple of days. Savor the news as one would the decanted essence of a 2011 Leroy Musigny Grand Cru, that peacock-tail of purple flowers, rose petals, and wild strawberry kawooshing across the tongue and disintegrating on the palette like the third shot from a zat. Let’s appreciate the enlightening fullness of the moment.
Second, there will be plenty to reveal, and this is something series creator Martin Gero very much wants to do…in time. We have a long runway between now and the premiere, so rather than front load all the details off the top, I think it makes more sense to reveal information over time in a consistent and gradual build as we progress through prep, production and post. As Martin said, he doesn’t just want to make this announcement and then go dark for months on end. He wants the fans to be informed in a way that makes them feel like they are part of the process in as close to real time as possible.
Third, this is Martin Gero’s show, both literally and figuratively, so he’s going to be leading the charge here. He’s earned that right – and also is in the best position to coordinate with Amazon and the various media outlets. Of course that’s not to say you can’t rely on me for my trademark behind-the-scenes photos, videos and insights on everything from writers’ room lunches and wardrobe fitting mishaps to disoriented accounts of getting lost in the woods during location scouts or reports of anxious producers visiting set for the first time and inadvertently walking off the edge of a ship set to face plant on the studio floor while main unit is rolling in the adjacent infirmary set. All good stuff that we will get to. Eventually.
Fourth, we’re in the very early stages, so there’s not a huge amount to reveal that I wouldn’t classify as spoilers. But as things ramp up, I guarantee that more information will be made available in an increasingly fast and furious pace. You will be one of the most dialed-in fandoms in sci-fi history.
Fifth, I honestly have no idea whether or not a Goa’uld hand device works for left-handed people too? I mean, I assume it does. Why wouldn’t it? What do you think?

I would actually prefer the info to be released in tantalizing bits and pieces, building anticipation more and more until the premiere. Much more fun. I actually haven’t been this excited for a new show starting since… I’m not sure, maybe ever!
Can’t wait for the v2 videos of the Weird Food Purchase of the Day. Does KFC make some current version of the Double Down?
Thanks for the update, Joe. Lots of very important information. Let’s break it down:
The Goa’uld are snake-like parasites that embed themselves into a host
The Goa’uld don’t have hands so are unlikely to have an inherent handedness
The hosts do have hands
Assuming the host is human, roughly 10% would be left handed
The Goa’uld seems to be able to override host traits if they wish (glowing eyes, scary voice, etc)
The Goa’uld could override the host’s handedness and make the host ambidextrous
Therefore, it doesn’t matter that the hand device is only designed for the right had. It would work no matter what the handedness of the host is.
I’m so jaded….what if it doesn’t happen? What if Amazon pulls the plug? What if we just get one season. Aggghhhh…
You’re right, Joseph. With everything. Let’s enjoy and then be waiting for your news. I’m very happy about your future role because Stargate franchise success has been significantly conditioned by your huge contribution. You are a guarantee for the show success!
It all still sounds to good to be true. It makes sense that Brad and you are the first ones to join the team again, and I hope your roles will be growing as the process moves on. I agree that it needs time to let the information settle in the minds of so many fans. After countless fake announcements and shattered hopes over the past decade, distrust, doubts and fear still linger.
I remember the time when the news about Universe broke (I also remember Atlantis, but SG-1 was still running then), fans were overjoyed but largely kept in the dark. IMO the fans were largely excluded from the process and then surprised about this new take. I think this time it was approached differently already. Releasing it with David and Darren was the best move! It sets the tone for things to come and I am excited, no matter were we venture.

🤣🤣🤣
i hope zats making things disappear at the third shot will be an integral part of the new show?! 😛 😉
Goa’uld hand device, that made me chuckle!
You absolutely must address the addition of Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin to the team! At one point they wanted to erase everything SG-1 built. Now they’re both on board to executive produce?! There is tea to be spilled on this one.
I have often in the past bemoaned the fact that Stargate SG 1 was a 22 or 23 episode season, and all the shows (not Stargate) have been 8 to 10 episodes, and the wait for the next season runs into years while the franchise goes off at a tangent with some other project. Or the thing gets cancelled after just one season.
I am not going to ask for content details, but I would like some reassurance that each season is more than just 7 or 8 episodes and that they come out with more regularity, like the SG 1 episodes did.
Also I would like to know if this new Stargate is available to everyone, not just those who can afford premium subscriptions to Amazon, to go with their subscriptions to Disney,Utube, Marvel, et al.
Glad this is a go so new fans can discover the SG world. Lost my fellow fan and convention comrade sadly but I know all the fans we’ve lost over those 15 years would be rooting for new seasons of this wonderful franchise.
Love how many military, science and engineering fans the SG universe has.
I’m confused. I just watched what I thought was a reboot of the series on Amazon.
What the heck did you watch?
