Movie #15: The Gorge
Two operatives are appointed to posts in guard towers on opposite sides of a classified gorge.
My thoughts: Like a live-action video game with, at times, suspect logic.
My rating: 3.5/5
Movie #16: Best Wishes To All
A young woman navigates a discovery within her immediate family only to find much more.
My thoughts: Love the eerie reveal at the heart of this movie but all too often some of the elements feel like weirdness for weirdness’ sake.
My rating: 3.5/5
Movie #17: Drop
A widowed mother’s first date in years takes a terrifying turn when she is bombarded with anonymous threatening messages on her phone.
My thoughts: An intriguing and fairly well-executed thriller that is not always successful in skirting the line between suspenseful and silly.
My rating: 3/5
Movie #18: Presence
A family becomes convinced they are not alone after moving into their new home in the suburbs.
My thoughts: This would have made a pretty killer short instead of a fairly predictable feature.
My rating: 2.5/5
Movie #19: Clown in a Cornfield
A fading midwestern town in which Frendo the clown, a symbol of bygone success, reemerges as a terrifying scourge.
My thoughts: Disappointingly paint-by-numbers.
My rating: 2/5

Of those, I have only seen The Gorge, which was like a combination of two separate movies – an interesting character piece where a relationship develops under very strange circumstances until it morphs into a pretty standard monster movie/escape type of flick. Overall, I enjoyed it, but found the sudden change in tone a bit jarring.
I’m not sure if you’ve seen or reviewed the movie “Midsommer” yet. I don’t remember seeing you mention it. Although, it was really well done, I also kind of hated it – in the sense that I found it deeply horrifying and disturbing. It actually bothered me quite a bit for a couple of days after seeing it. If you’ve seen it, I’d love to know your thoughts.
I liked Midsommer. As you said – very disturbing.
Thanks for the reviews!
The plot for that movie, “Drop” reminds me of that Netflix doc called “Unknown Number: The High School Catfish”. Crazy.
I haven’t seen Misommer yet, either. Thanks “Gforce” for that recommendation! 👋🏻
Have you noticed how good the cover art is for some of these films? One of my favorites is this one: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3463938 Terrible, terrible movie but the thumbnail always catches my eye.
