Okay.  I’ve pulled the trigger.  I’m all in.  Next up, the negotiations.  Meanwhile, I’ve already started discussions about series structure with the show’s insanely talented creator.  Good good guy.  You’re gonna love him.

In answer to the obvious question – Yes, sci-fi, but very different from the type of shows I’ve worked on in the past.  Very exciting.

If all goes as planned, we should convene the writer’s room in early August after which it’ll be smoooooooooth sailing!

This is definitely going to put a crimp in my record-setting reading pace.

Oh, thanks to everyone asking about the move.  We’re all settled in.  Akemi successfully assembled both the bar and bar cart.  By the time the book and liquor shelving arrive in 5-6 weeks, I’ll have all 65 bottles of whiskey on display. Meanwhile, we accepted delivery of the new coffee table, bar stools, dining room chairs, and living room couch (albeit with the wrong legs).  Once we get a t.v. in here for moderate background noise, it’ll truly feel like home.

The dogs, meanwhile, are already fully settled.  Lulu has already claimed the couch (with the wrong legs) as her own.

But that sunny spot by the window remains a favorite.

Suji meanwhile, not quite as chill, too a little longer to adapt.  Pictured above facing one of her many existential moments.

The nice thing is we’re now only a short 5 minute walk from my favorite place with the fancy coffees.  Pictured above, me on a date with my gal.

Tomorrow, it’s lunch with former Dark Matter Visual Effects Supervisor Lawren Bancroft-Wilson, possibly an anime matinee, some more research for this upcoming project.  Official news to come…

  1. I’ve read that dogs are more attached to people and cats their territory. I guess Suji has to have both? 😉 She’ll whip the new place into shape soon.

Great news on the new show and I can’t wait to hear about it!

  2. SWEET! And, we will be at your side or at least nearby each step of the way to hear your stories.

  3. Well, well, well…a new project! It’s time to get those show gears well oiled and the magic of a writing room humming away again. Glad to hear that the home is nearly set & adapted to. You’ll need that comfort to unwind between windups and spins.

I look forward to your latest endeavor & am excited for the talent who will be engaged with your warm family centered, character driven approach. They don’t know how lucky they are, yet. Also, I hope you can get a few sparkling dream teamers to build with again. It’s all about collaborative chemistry. I’m sure ya’ll will knock it out of the park.
Hopefully your project will fall into a media I have access to & desire to support. I don’t want to miss it!

Always if you or Akemi, Lulu or Suji need anything I’m only a DM away.

    Congratulations!

  4. Wishing you the best success (in your favor) negotiations. I’m excited and look forward to hearing more about your new project.

  5. Congrats! Looking forward to hearing more! Is the series greenlit or are we just at pilot stage at this point?

  6. I’m glad the dogs are settling in fine, even if Suji does have her occasional moments. Heck, I’ve been here almost three years, and I still have mine.

This sounds like exciting news! I can’t wait to hear more.

  7. Looks like the dogs are settling in just fine, as well as all the whisky. I wish I liked whisky, my husband does, but even in a Sazerac, I just can’t. I must have been a sailor in a former life as well as this one, it is rum for me. Dark, dark rum. Spicy. Like my soul. Buwahahahaaaa…

Very exciting developments, hoping all goes well with the negotiations!

  8. Thanks for the sweet pics of the girls.

Cant wait to hear the new wondrous stories. xo

Also very good to see we did not lose you to an alternate dimension
when Akemi finally got the bar cart put together. 😀

  9. Great to hear everything is on the up and up. Congratulations. Yay!
    Looking forward to hearing more

  10. That sounds wonderful! Congrats. Nice to have direction. Looking forward to your story.

  11. Official news to come… thats more of a cliff hanger than Dark matter’s last episode. ‘but very different from the type of shows I’ve worked on in the past’ I hope you are not straying too far from the path. If its different than what you’ve worked on in the past then its probably not militaristic, nor space crew centered. I wonder what it could be! So exciting.

  12. Good for you Joe! Glad things at home are settling in. Best success on your new project! Negotiate in good faith, but be firm.
Will you be bringing in some of the old gang from Dark Matter to help in production? Of course if they are available. I am looking forward to know more details for this sci-fi project.

  13. Very exciting! Can’t wait to hear the news. Then I’ll just have to figure out how to stream it. =)

Happy the move is going smooth-ish. I’m making Habanero pickles this weekend, so I’ll have to send you a house-warming jar. Check me out on FB for progress over the weekend.

  14. Congrats on the excitement of the new show. One thing I have learned from my condition is to take your time; it will work if it was meant to work. Next for me is to clear my calendar so I can use my time on a mounting reading list. I want to get into my list of Econ books to proof mental improvement for my self.

  15. Never mind about the new series…I want to see a picture of your whisky collection on the new shelves when they come!! 🙂

  16. OMG you are such a tease. I can’t wait to hear what your project is….congrats!
