April 21, 2016: New Dark Matter Episode Title! And Much Love For Syfy International!

We had a special visitor to set today, all the way from jolly old New York – representing our much-loved Syfy International: Bipasha Ghosh, Vice President International Marketing, NBC Universal!

If you may recall, I’ve mentioned Syfy International in many past blog entries, and gave the team a BIG shout-out at SDCC last year for all their support and genuine love for Dark Matter.  We’re a huge hit overseas and that’s in no small part thanks to the tireless efforts of Bipasha and co. who have been getting the word out and the fans involved.  It was Bipasha who started me Periscoping and she has secured my involvement in plenty more post-episode Periscope chats…along with a slew of fan-friendly reach-outs we’ll be springing on you in the coming months.  And how, pray tell, did she convince me to commit to all these awesome fan giveaways and goodies?  Well…

Anyway, it was great to finally meet Bipasha, face to face, after so many phone convos, conference calls, emails, and carrier pigeon messages.  Looking forward to working with her in the coming months.  You’re all in for a treat…

Whaaat?  Dark Matter Supervising Producer Ivon Bartok snapped this impromptu, unrehearsed, totally casual picture of me taking a break from the on-set action yesterday.

    Guess I should went with my gut on the TOP GUN Title! First one I have not nailed!

    I really hope Dark Matter can break the five season Syfy curse. Nothing scripted in recent years has aired for more than five seasons on the network. Technically SG-1 doesn’t count as that got picked up for Seasons 6-10.

    I do think that you’ve proven without a doubt though that you can make a great Scifi show without a big budget. Your awesome showrunner abilities no doubt have played a huge part in that.

    Joe I’m getting antsy about the start of the new season. How about a actual working time shift Machine from the from the special effects department.

    In-between hers a nifty item that is just coming out for development purposes from MSN the HoloLens. I predict interesting things in the near future for this item. you might begin thinking and developing product and maybe applications for it.

    integrated integrating virtual and actual footage together. In the not to distant future Sensory feedback including touch and smell.

    You might want to ge3t them to order several for the special effects department so they can develop the apps to help create the toys you need for the various episodes.

    I got to thinking about how the Hololens operation could enhance the development of toys for the show and realized that by creating rough mockups of the various devices such a a pistol or rifle and paint them for blue screen you could film the actor holding a whatever and creating the virtual device and put them in place to see how they look before you actually build it. Like acting to a ping pong ball and insert a virtual person or creature. as they replicate the actor for Orphan Black.

    I’m OK with that title as I likes both that and the machine one.

    I followed DM_show. Had you considered DarkMatterWriters? Most shows now have a writers room account & they live tweet. I’m thinking there may be confusion between DarkMatter_Show & darkmatter_tv. If there’s anything I can help you with please let me know.

    Woo hoo! I’m on a roll with the titles.

    So Joe, as a graphic designer I get all geeked out when you post logos and other designs from the art department. How does one go about being a graphic designer working on things like Dark Matter and other tv shows? I’d be super-pee-my-pants-thrilled if this was my job but I have no idea how to even break into this.
