As I mentioned in a previous blog entry, we’ve got big casting news coming your way – most likely early in the New Year.  We’ve already made it official with the character of Nyx who will be played by the amazing Melanie Liburd (, but we’ve got a few more to go. In addition to Devon, Inspector Shaddick of the G.A.’s Serious Crimes Division, Misaki Han (Itoh-Shireikan of the Imperial Royal Guard of Ishida), there’S Arax Nero.

ARAX NERO: Male 40 – 50
A powerful prison boss and former underworld figure, he is a powerful force. Cool, calculated, sometimes uneasingly calm, he can be both a charming and chilling presence.

Any guesses here?  Come on!  You know who I’m talking about.  He’s perfect the role!

On the home front today, as planned – less driving and more eating.  Also, more prepping…

December 22, 2015: Arax Nero And More Dark Matter Casting Announcements To Come!

Every year, my exhausted mother swears it will be the last time she’ll prepare a huge Christmas meal.  Fast forward 12 months later and here she is prepping some eggplant parmigiana for Thursday night’s 14 person Christmas dinner.

Today, she drafted Akemi to help her with the chocolate cakes.

Slather on a layer of custard, melted chocolate, and whipped cream and we’re good to go!

  1. The only person I think of with that description of Arax is Joe F, but since I know that will never, ever happen I hope it’s someone else from the SF franchise. 🙂

  2. The only person I think of with that description of Arax is Joe F(I can dream), but since I know that will never, ever happen I hope it’s someone else from the SG franchise. 🙂 Merry Christmas to you and your family!

  3. Mike Dopud?

I’m going to dream out that chocolate cake….. Yum! Your mom should do a recipe book.

  4. Oooo … chocolate cake, custard, cream AND melted chocolate … heaven on a plate! 😋 Your mum sure knows how to produce yummy eatables! She’s a sweetie and a treasure, to be sure! 😊

On the subject of Arax Nero, I’m going with Mike Dopud too…. I could see him as a very intimidating prison boss 😐 but nothing our guys couldn’t handle. Am I wrong?

  5. Can’t believe I’m torturing myself this way but pls include photo of chocolate with cream and melted chocolate.

What lovely pics of your gorgeous mom and lovely Akemi, wishing you guys a Merry Christmas!

  6. Admit it @DAS, you were hoping for TODD, right..?!

    ooooo… C.H.O.C.O.L.A.T.E.!!!!!

  7. Thanks Ponytail for wishing me well on my trip!

I told my mom not to cook anything, and that I would take her out for lunch. So when we arrived to pick her up, she had made a huge meal. 🙁 At 78, I’m glad she has energy to do that but I was trying to give her a break.

Thanks for sharing your Christmas with us, Mr. M.! I’m so glad to see your sis and mom are doing so well. The food looks fantastic! Also, I’m happy they adopted another pup into the family. Lucky dog. 🙂

  8. Jason Momoa!!!! I can’t wait!!

Great cooks like your mom Joe don’t give up easy. She obviously enjoys cooking – especially for her baby boy! It’s good that Akemi will help her.

@ maggiemayday – Praying for successful surgery and improved health for you. I will be thinking about you next week. Hoping you can find a way to keep us updated. Put your hubby on here. We’ll be good to him. 🙂

@Tam – Glad you had a good time!

  9. Next year you should all make the food for your mom… send her out for a manicure and facial and pampering!

Looking forward to whoever you choose for the part. 🙂 But if you did choose TODD for Das, it would be good. 🙂

  10. Arax Nero = Joseph Mallozzi.

    I am right, aren’t I? 😉

@ Sparrowhawk – Sorry, no can do. Just when I think my life is all smooooooth sailing, somebody dies/car breaks down/funds run dry/I get my period. Pick one – at my age they’re all shitty options. 😛

  11. Robert Davi comes to mind, but alas he won’t be in the 40 to 45 year old range you’re looking for.

And go Mrs. Mallozzi! She’s ahead of me…I still have mincemeat and pecan pies to make…

  12. Sorry for posting again. I know you’re super busy eatting and stuff. Just wanted to ask Ponytail how her parents are doing?

  13. Oh man, that food! I am normally in the middle of all sorts of baking, but not this year.

Thank you, Ponytail. Ha, my husband can barely navigate Facebook. No worries, the hospital has free wifi. I look forward to hours of Bejeweled Blitz and Amazon Prime video.

  14. The fan girl in me would love it to be Joe Flanigan or Chris Judge or Jason Momoa but my final answer is Mike Dopud.

  15. Joe, I know exactly what you’re talking about with your mom and Christmas. My dear 83 year old mother announced a couple of weeks ago that she could not possibly do another big Christmas dinner with all the fixings and she regrets it because it may be her last Christmas. Just yesterday I get the call ‘We have to go shopping…’ I believe this has been the routine for the last 15 years or so. Gotta roll with it.

While I’m here, Merry Christmas Mallozziblogophiles!. Appreciate you all and love the comments section. Your blog’s pretty good too, Joe.

  16. Christopher Heyerdahl would be a fitting choice, but he’s a bit outside that age range. Michael Shanks could be another option since he also films Saving Hope in Toronto. Looks like Mike Dopud is the leading option though..
