December 13, 2015: It’s Beeginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas!

“He loves to dress up!” – Akemi on Bubba and his silly festive outfits.

I was somewhat dubious but have to admit that he does seem to enjoy all of the attention/sympathy he receives when he’s out for his walks.

Lulu, on the other hand, prefers to go au naturel, running and hiding under the coffee table at the first sight of her winter jacket.

Akemi has been feeling unusually “knitty” of late but has apparently hit a roadblock after forgetting how to knit a hat.  Pictured above: her frustrated look.

December 13, 2015: It’s Beeginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas!

We wrap production on Episode 201 this Friday and, after a weekend of R&R, and – hopefully – a win from my Snow Monkeys in their first playoff game, we’ll be off to Montreal to spend Christmas with mom and sis.  Like last year, I’ve loaded up on my podcasts for the 6 hour drive.  Ivon recommended Criminal while Jodelle suggested Welcome to Nightvale.  Both sound promising.  Any other podcasts I should be considering?

Tomorrow, I’m back on Hyperion-8 with the rest of the convicts – and unusually detained.  December 13, 2015: It’s Beeginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas!

Gen. Pop. was almost complete last time I snuck a peek.  They were installing the forcefield generators on Saturday.

The cell beds were sourced from a local penitentiary while the blankets were shipped in from Altair-7 for that added depth of realism.

A shout-out to a couple of Dark Matter supporters on twitter:

@GeekSoulBrother and @The7thMatrix

We appreciate the love.

And, like I said last night, Season 2 is going to be crazy!

  1. The Akemi and Lulu image is so precious! Love the cute outfits.
Have you given further thought to adopting more pups? Usually, the holidays bring out the generous compassion in folks. I understand you’re quite busy with DM right now, but there are so many pets waiting for a home.

Enjoying all of the DM pics — please keep them coming!

  2. The forcefield generators look good…are they implemented with LED strips? Just curious…

Any other podcasts I should be considering?

During the 70’s (in my pre-teens and teens) I would sneak a battery powered radio to bed and after “lights out” and I would listen to the 11pm broadcast of the CBS Radio Mystery Theater. This was my guilty pleasure as a kid.

About eight years ago I found they had archived all 1399 broadcasts of the CBSRMT (you can stream or download them as MP3’s):

They do suffer a little from being dated (the show ran from ’74 to ’82), but that can be fun as well; have any favorite radio jingles from the 70’s? They’re all free, but caveat emptor, you get what you pay for…

  3. Hitting a roadblock. Is Akemi working on the infamous hat-scarf-sweater-cozy blanket?
Carl Amari produces, I think in Chicago, Hollywood 360. Maybe you might be interested in some old time radio programs like Inner Sanctum/Twilight Zone?

  4. You know what?! My crazy beagle has a couple of sweaters but not a Christmas one. I’m going to go get her one this week! And a hat! @ Akemi – my beagle thanks you…. I’m sure… 🙂

  5. The sets look great! As far as podcasts, I’m sure you already listen to the Nerdist with Chis Hardwick. Others I listen to when I go for a walk or work on a digital painting are NPR’s Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me, The Skeptics Guide to the Universe (SGU) for short. 😉 The Infinite Monkey Cage with Brian Cox, Star Talk Radio with Neil Degrasse Tyson, Big Picture Science with Seth Shostak and NPR’s Science Friday. I listen mostly to Science Podcasts but I thought they might appeal to you as well for that reason.

  6. @AKEMI
    Use Circular Needles.

    @DAS
I’m going to guess, under the mattress..? Just push the bed “rail” down, the mat probably pops up, punch the pillow to flush..? 😀

  7. Hello,
Amanda Tapping smiling: one of the most beautiful smile I ever seen.Truly. It always give me joy. Very unique and very special! Please send my message to Amanda. C’est un vrai et très sincère compliment; je n’ai jamais dis cela d’une autre actrice.

and, as always you are torturing us: “…In fact, when I created the character, I did so with THIS performer in mind. Who am I talking about? Well, you’ll have to wait for the press release coming your way next week.”
    Can’t wait…

  8. My favorite thing to do is visit BBC Radio and listen to all the radio plays they have available. There’s always something I find interesting…

  9. I usually listen to audiobooks while I drive. I’m sure you could download some good ones! What’s Akemi going to do if you listen to podcasts?

Love the pictures of “Your Girls”. Beautiful!

Doesn’t Lulu get cold without a sweater?

  10. Did I read it right that there may be a cameo of a certain favorite writer/show runner? If only you’d be there after someone loved character is killed off. Sweet justice for fans then 🙂

  11. Hi Jo,

Amanda Tapping smiling: one of the most beautiful smile I ever seen. Seeing her to smile always give me joy. Very unique and very special! Please send my message to Amanda. C’est un vrai et très sincère compliment; je n’ai jamais dis cela d’une autre actrice.

  12. I enjoy Neil deGrasse Tyson’s STARTALK RADIO, and David Blue’s OUT OF THE BLUE. While I generally don’t like costumes on pets, I know that fine-haired dogs benefit from sweaters in cold climates. Your babies look very cute in their sweaters. If they truly hated them, they would not allow Akemi to put them on them. I love the picture of “your girls.” And I agree with everyone else that Amanda Tapping’s genuine smile warms he heart. <3

  13. Nice, seriously I hope this set does become a pod hotel so I can visit. Love the style, every prisoner can feel like a new iPhone in an Apple store. Don’t show this to the OINTB gals or they’ll be jalouse enough to shiv.

  14. Oh, those doggie outfits are…um… cute!

@JeffW – you can make a force field generator out of LED strips?? *runs to Home Depot*

The sets look great, but I would expect nothing less.

  15. Oh man….this is pretty sweet looking. This seems like it could be something you and Akemi can work on during the Christmas break to bring to the office. Seems like you could make these Dark Matter themed fairly easily!

  16. Love the sets, you have such talent working with you. Whatever you chose to listen to on the trip, I hope you have good weather. I can smells your moms wonderful cooking now, yummy, can’t wait to see the pictures!
I can not help Akemi on the knit block, I only dabble at crochet and quilting. Hope she can get it. ~~no tree up here, dining room table which usually holds the tree(3ft) is busy with quilting project. I think Santa will still find me. fingers crossed.

  17. LOL Loving all the people commented about the lack of toilets.

I think Boomer would run in another direction if I tried to put anything on him, although Jeff loved how beautiful he looked in a blue Christmas outfit against his white fur when we were deciding on which golden rescue to adopt at the meet and greet.
