September 27, 2015: Stargate Sg-1 Coaster Giveaway!

At Akemi’s behest, I am getting moving on those Stargate giveaways I promised a while back.

First up are these lovely matching surprisingly heavy Stargate: SG-1 coasters!

All you have to do is be one of the first to correctly answer the following five skill-testing SG-1-related questions..

What was the first script Paul Mullie and I wrote for the franchise – the one that landed us a staff job on SG-1’s fourth season?

What signature item did director Wil Waring sneak into his episodes as a visual calling card?

Name three of the generals who ran Stargate Command during the SG-1‘s ten year run?

What play does Teal’c unwitting attend at the end of Family Ties?

What parting advice does AU Cameron Mitchell offer our Cam at the end of Ripple Effect?

I’ll answer the winner in tomorrow blog entry.  Good luck!

  11. Scorched Earth was the first script, tho Window of Opportunity was the first episode to actually air. Listing both in case this is a trick question!
Will Waring liked to have a Pineapple somewhere in his episodes.
General Hammond, General O’Neill, General Landry were all in charge of the SGC.
    Teal’c attended The Vagina Monologues.
AU Cam says when the time comes, cut the green one.

  14. Q: What was the first script Paul Mullie and I wrote for the franchise – the one that landed us a staff job on SG-1’s fourth season?

A: April 24, 2011: Days of Stargate Past “As I mentioned in a previous blog entry, our first episode produced was actually our second episode written (Scorched Earth being the first)…”

What signature item did director Wil Waring sneak into his episodes as a visual calling card?
    A:Pineapple

Name three of the generals who ran Stargate Command during the SG-1’s ten year run?
    A:
    General Hammond
    General O’Neill
    General Landry

What play does Teal’c unwitting attend at the end of Family Ties?
    A:The Vagina Monologues

What parting advice does AU Cameron Mitchell offer our Cam at the end of Ripple Effect?
A:Hey Mitchell” “When the time comes, cut the green one”

  15. Not part of contest… just comment to Akemi whom I usually side with… but tell her to leave you alone. I have never met a situation where I wouldn’t talk to a stranger, lol.

It’s like the Stephen King article about teaching and “the thing that wouldn’t shut up.”

I have indeed exchanged info, made friends and helped people out thanks to my lack of inhibition about strangers. 🙂

But you should have noticed the name badges, lol.

  16. 1) Scorched Earth
    2) Pineapple
    3) Gens Hammond, Landry, O’Neill
    4) The Vagina Monologues
    5) “When the time comes, cut the green one”

  17. 1 – It was “Window of Opportunity”
    2 – It was a pineapple
    3 – Jack O’Neill, George S. Hammond, Henry Bauer
    4 – The Vagina Monologues, (i love Teal’cs reaction)
5 – He said “When the time comes, cut the green one”

  18. 1 – It was “Window of Opportunity” that was the first one to air, though scorched earth was the first one written AFAIK
    2 – It was a pineapple
    3 – Jack O’Neill, George S. Hammond, Henry Bauer
    4 – The Vagina Monologues, (i love Teal’cs reaction)
5 – He said “When the time comes, cut the green one”

  19. If based on Air date, “Window of Opportunity” was the first. “Scorched Earth” was the second.

Will Waring was fond of placing pineapples in scenes.

Generals running SG Command were George Hammond, Jack O’Neill and Hank Landry. But Henry Bauer had a very brief stint at SG Command.

Teal’c realized he really screwed up with “The Vagina Monologues”.

The AU Mitchell told ours, “When the time comes, cut the green one”.

I’m late, but hopefully, correct with all of my information.

  20. 1. Window of Opportunity!!!
    2. Pineapple
    3. George Hammond, Jack O’Neill, Hank Landry
    4. The Vagina Monologues
    5. When the time comes, cut the green one.

  21. 1: Window of Opportunity
    2: Pineapple
3: George Hammond, Hank Landry, Jack O’Neill
    4: The Vagina Monologues
5: When the time comes, cut the green one

  22. Will you throw all the correct answers in a Stargate hat and let Akemi draw out the winner? Is the winner the FIRST person to get all questions right? Is there a time limit . . . first 30 minutes then draw out a winner?

  23. My inquiring mind wants to know… for future reference, when you start asking Atlantis questions. Got any Ronon stuff? 🙂

  24. Scorched Earth, though I’m guessing
A pineapple, though a different one than the one on Psych
General George Hammond, General Hank Landry, and Brigadier General Jack O’Neill, with 3 L’s
Teal’c attended The Vagina Monologues, which he got misty eyed.
Cut the green one, but he didn’t specify what

  25. Scorched Earth-a great episode
    Pineapple, sometimes painted
Hammond, Landry, Bauer, West mentioned in Children of the Gods
The Vagina Monologues. Othello would have been creepy.
“Hey Mitchell, when the time comes, cut the green one.”
I would have loved “So long and thanks for all the fish.”

What do you think or Fear The Walking Dead? I love the arty approach, so unexpected in TV.

  31. Wow! If I want to win next time, I’ll have to put in my answers faster (If I had known all of them, that is). Did you anticipate such enthusiastic responses? Pretty cool! It looks like gforce won.

Hey gforce, how is the house coming along? Also, I’m jumping the gun but Congrats!

Das: How is the TV detox going? I have a show on Netflix that is cute. I’m on the last season. It’s a British offbeat, low key/comedy/drama called “Doc Martin”. Have you seen that one yet? It’s a low stress show and we watch it while we “decompress” from the day.

  32. I hate quizzes. 😛

@ Tam Dixon – Doc Martin – I know the show, I’ve watched it a couple times, but the actor bugs me. He reminds me of the guy who took my sister to the prom (not a boyfriend, just an available body). We use to call him Beetlejuice. Yeah…he was THAT bad. 😛

So, my detox is going…so-so. My sister wanted to watch the season premiere of NCIS and so I caved. 😛 I watched the premiere of black-ish. Will probably watch Elementary if that comes back because it’s the only show Mr. Das and I still regularly watch together.

I am still watching – at my convenience – Inspector Morse, Miss Fisher’s Mysteries, Doctor Blake Mysteries, Midsomer Murders, and Murdoch Mysteries/Artful Detective. If I’m in the mood I might watch Father Brown, Death in Paradise, Foyle’s War, and other mysteries that comes on PBS. Some I’ve seen a million times over so I don’t actually ‘watch’ them, but I listen to them while doing other things – like paperwork or housework – just to have a familiar ‘voice’ in the house. And some get deleted if I’ve seen them already. And, of course, I have my rugby. Lots and lots of rugby. 🙂

My husband has already started watching a few new shows, including…Blindspot – is that it? But I just can’t. Too overwhelmed by too many plots, characters, and premises. It’s just too, too, toooooooo much for my brain to handle. And I’m WAY too overwhelmed by the tension, violence, and death that just saturates the tv now. I can handle a little, and Dark Matter was the ‘little’ this time around. But for the most part, if there’s going to be a body, give me a body I haven’t grown attached to…and please don’t let me see them suffer! Thank god for DVRs and the FF button. Unless it’s Sharknado…for some unexplained reason I can handle sharks…in a tornado. 🙂

So – what does that translate into? I am finding more free time! Friday night – with hubby at work – was gratuitous mystery night! (After all, I am still watching some tv. 😉 ) Saturday, however, we went up the road to a rugby match (Go Sharks!), visited with the in-laws, and spent the evening at home reading! It was nice not feeling pressured into ‘catching the new episode’. Sunday, after services and a nice nap (and some grocery shopping), I made dinner and then we sat outside and watched the eclipse. First time in ages that Mr. Das and I have spent quality talky-time together (can’t count the drive to the rugby match because car talk is different than reflective staring-at-the-stars talk 😉 ). The eclipse was lovely, and it was made especially great when a ‘shooting star’ darted under the blood moon. Just beautiful!

I’m feeling a sense of freedom and I really don’t want to get hooked on anything new. I have enough on my plate. And last winter I wasted a dozen hours or so watching a show that wasn’t renewed. Not worth it! I feel like I’ve spent just too much time sitting on my arse watching other people do stuff…much of which I hate – death, destruction, hate, anger, confrontation, aggression! So stupid. I’ve been so stupid. Reminds me of the Tool song, Vicarious:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKs_-Burkgo

“I need to watch things die, from a good safe distance.”

That line made me rethink a lot, especially how much death I’m willing to subject myself to.

I still like Sharknado movies, though.

    🙂

  33. We also have to consider General West, he was mentioned in Children of the Gods – Pilot for continuity… hmmmm

  34. I also do not consider Bauer of being in charge or in control of anything including his own mind… =) Weir did better job then he ever could have!

  35. @Tam Dixon: The house is coming along pretty well. There was a week or two where there seemed to be a bit of down time again, but things have picked up and they are pretty confident I will be in by the end of October. Right now they’re building the rear deck and doing trim and doors inside, so it’s really starting to look like something you could move in to. I should post some pictures soon!

  36. Das: Sounds like it’s going well for you. I know what you mean about the violence. My hubby says the same thing. I fast forward through the worst parts now. Especially, if it doesn’t add to the plot.
Too bad you don’t enjoy Doc Martin. Maybe, Martin Clunes is an acquired taste. He certainly doesn’t look like the usual American TV actor. We get such a kick out of his grumpiness and his plain spoken character. Plus, Cornwall is gorgeous!
I’ve finished all of Netflix’s Murdock Mysteries. Can’t wait for them to get more!

  37. …and the fact that I only check your blog on weekdays while I’m at work has come back to bite me in the butt!

Those coasters were what I was hoping to have a shot at! 🙂 Oh well, seeing as I check it only once in the morning and not in the afternoon(when you usually post), I wouldn’t have been first anyway.
