Well, the ratings are in for the Atlantis’s season premiere, Adrift, and it looks like Rob’s cold realism won out over Brad’s bright optimism. We’ve done better. On the other hand, we did very well in some key demographics. So, is this good or bad news? Uh, both? Sure, people will find different ways to spin it – some doom and gloom here, a silver lining there – but, at the end of the day, all that matters is did we get that fifth season pick-up or not? No word on that yet and I’m still hopeful but, just in case, I wonder if Fondy may need a stock boy at her pet boutique.
Speaking of results, the final votes have been tabulated for the upcoming Joe’s Book of the Month Club. Beginning the end of this month, we will be discussing Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle’s The Legacy of Heorot and Stephen R. Donaldson’s Lord Foul’s Bane. All you leisurely readers should get started now.

Today’s video: The crew photo wraps. Geez, who knew this many people worked on the show!
Questions and comments have been piling up…
Kdvb1 writes: “Ouch! I probably shouldn’t have told him you said that as we both attended U.S.F.!”
Answer: When I made my prediction, I wasn’t aware West Virginia would be playing your Bulls. As I mentioned in a previous entry, Carl and I had a great time watching SFU upset Auburn a couple of weeks back and they are for real.
Charles Schneider writes: “What sort of rigmarole did you have to go through to get clearance to put outtakes and deleted scenes in future DVD releases? […] I know you have to not only get clearance from the powers that be, but also from any actor who appears in the deleted scene. Did some of the actors not feel comfortable showing their “messed up” takes?”
Answer: Deleted scenes aren’t at issue but outtakes are a little more complicated and may, in fact, necessitate the individual actors signing off on them. So, in the event certain actors do not appear in the outtake special feature we’re planning, you’ll know why.
Anonymous #2 writes: “You’ve said you’d like to have Michael (Shanks) on the show; what about Ben Browder? Or are you not a Mitchell fan?”
Answer: I like the Mitchell character a lot and would love to have him do a guest spot. But Daniel would be a priority given his connection to Atlantis.
GaterVic writes: “How did you work out the no gravity close-up scenes -was that all green screen & wires?”
Answer: Yep.
Firefly827347 writes: “Is “Levine”, by any chance, named after dear Alex?”
Answer: Yes.
Majorsal writes: “were amanda, david, joe, rachel, and jason at the party too?”
Answer: Yes, they were.
Promogirl writes: “I love the way you guys are shooting the show so much darker this season. It just makes all the colors look so… Lush.”
Answer: Check out Tabula Rasa for a very unique-looking episode.
Aire writes: “I saw Old Man’s War at a bookstore today, and picked it up after remembering that you’d recommened it to someone a while back. […] It looks like the first in a trilogy though. Is it possible to read it as a stand alone? I also found some of the books in Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series. Can any of them be read as stand alones as well?”
Answer: Although reading them in order would be preferable, the individual books are stand alones so you can read them in any order.
Brains103 writes: “Who all gets invited to wrap parties like these? (other than cast and crew and writers and producers)”
Answer: Their dates.
