Meanwhile, still waiting to start repairs on our floors following the water damage we sustained…what feels like months ago.  We can’t live here when the restoration is happening and we’re getting closer to TIFF (The Toronto International Film Festival) which will make finding a hotel room near impossible in the coming weeks.  Do you think insurance will pay for a trip to Vancouver?

  1. Ar-Em-Zee, he-he. An interesting skew there toward some diverse entertainment from faraway places I wouldn’t otherwise encounter. I tried to watch the South Korean zombie film Colony yesterday. It was bad overall but had decent zombie effects. But at least it was 1080p and probably 10bit color.

Tubi TV has a legitimate site as well as an app and they stream lots of series and films worthwhile, with ads though, no registration required.

If you want to binge watch stuff worthwhile, stuff I imagine you’d get a kick out of but maybe haven’t watched yet, I highly recommend the series Dresden Files, and additionally the 2013-2015 series Atlantis with Mark Addy. Both are a really fun time, or were for me.

Did you like Train to Busan? Atlantis and Dresden Files feel a little too fantasy for me, but thanks.

      1. I did not know this 2026 flick Colony was a sequel, thematically at least. I skipped around a bit. I liked the UV effects with that spaghetti they were coughing up though.

The Atlantis I recommended feels arc-wise and character-wise, humor/action/intrigue balance, a lot like the feeling viewers got from Hercules and Xena, but more adult. There’s some complex politics. Alexander Siddig’s it, so you get to see Dr Bashir. Many of the plots revolve around retellings of classical Greek stories. It’s charming, truly.

Dresden Files I held off watching after I heard about, but it’s great in that classic Canadian sci-fi way. It feels familiar, even just after a few minutes in.

Dresden Files leans into this magic thing rather than future technology but it’s much the same sort of fun romp.

My all time favorite shows off the top of my head are Blake’s 7, McGoohan’s The Prisoner, The Avengers, pre- Colin Baker Dr Who, Sanctuary, SG-1 and SG Atlantis of course, oh and LEXX. I like a bit of strange in my series.

  2. PBmom had something like this happen to her house (water heater flooded the bottom floor). I bet she could give you ideas about the insurance. If I remember her story correctly, her insurance company paid a motel to house them for months. Her golden was a big hit with the hotel staff.

On another topic, If you’re looking for funny banter for a scrip, I’ve got one for you. (This has nothing to do with damaging the water supply) Also, when you read this, add a very deep southern accent to each person.

A lady in my karate class, Patty, was flubbing up a lot.
Sensei: “Patty, is everything alright? You seem distracted”
Patty: “I’m worried about my crockpot of beans. I’m not sure if I put enough water in the pot.” Sensei: “Is there anyone at home you can call to add more water?”
Patty: “Just my dog, Sadie and she’s not tall enough to reach the counter.” A completely straight face and causal delivery. I did NOT see that coming. 😄😄

I can just imagine that deadpan delivery.

  3. I’m enjoying Furious but you’re WAY more picky than I am. If you decide on Furious, wait until all the episodes drop. Bingeing an entire series has spoiled me. I hate waiting…

A few of the others are on my list but I life has been crazy. Haven’t had the chance to watch them.

Oh and it was a kidney infection that caused my mom’s confusion. It’s crazy how UTIs and kidney problems causes such weird reactions in the elderly.

True re: the infections. My mother’s former roommate at the facility, a lovely woman, went absolutely crazy a few weeks back. And it turned out it was because she had a UTI.

      1. When my step mom would wind up in the hospital with delirium/dementia symptoms I got to the point where I would tell them to check for UTI and sure enough antibiotics would fix it within a couple of days.

  4. Anna Pigeon is a great show you should try.
