Whenever we’re out, Sharky will always stop to listen to music, especially if the song incorporates some form of clapping. He’ll just park himself directly under the speaker and listen. Today, he stopped and wouldn’t move until the full completion of Joan Jett & the Blackhearts’ I Love Rock ‘n Roll.
It’s one of this top three favorite thing to do: listen to music, smell food or perfume, and position himself by female-frequented establishments so that women will stop and give him attention. Which is why he loves the Sephora store near our place. There’s a speaker piping out music directly in front of the door that, every time it opens, sends out a waft of perfume – and female customers.
I really should be working on another pilot, or rewriting that feature scripts, but I’ve been having too much fun building these adventures I’ll be unveiling – if the timing is right – some time in late September. For those of you who have been keeping track, I’ve been assembling a starship crew chosen from across myriad SF t.v. franchises. We have 16 crew members to date and, when all is said and done, we’ll end up with a round 20 – at which point we’ll embark on our first mission chock full of twists and turns, shocks and surprises – and plenty of sci-fi goodness. Currently, we are selecting a candidate from the Trek/Gate Division – which I have decided to make a separate class otherwise the entire crew will be made up of Trek/Gate characters. The second category will be the Non-Trek/Gate Division which will, hopefully, land us an intriguing Babylon 5 or another Farscape character. The crew is heavy on the testosterone, so I’m making the third category the Women of Sci-fi Division. And for the final category, I’m going to with Dealer’s Choice and have character’s of my personal choosing battle it out.
Once that’s done, the adventure begins. In the interest of always giving fans a choice, I have elected to develop four very different missions for our maiden voyage. And then, depending on how successful this experiment, maybe we’ll move on to the next. I’m halfway through developing the third mission and I can’t tell you how much fun it’s been – and how very much like writing for my old shows, the Stargates and Dark Matter. Swap out the characters, and any of these adventures would make a terrific pilot for an original far future science fiction series…if, of course, they were still making those.
On the home front…not much to report. Half our flooring is gone as we wait for something to happen. Spoke to my insurance company a couple of weeks ago and was hoping that work cold be approved while we were away but, alas, that was not to be. We’ve been back for one full week and still no progress. Akemi is getting worried because we won’t be able to live in our place while work is ongoing and the longer this delays, the more likely this pushes into TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) during which time all of the hotels will be booked up.
