My first Japanese convenience store individually wrapped banana! This was my breakfast today as it would seem all this eating and drinking has finally caught up with me. Hard to pinpoint the source of what could well be food poisoning given Akemi and I have pretty much eaten the same things, but I do recall feeling strangely “full” a few days back. I chalked it up to everything I was eating, but did find it odd that I had lost my appetite. And then, last night, it hit! I tossed and turned and, this morning, had to bail on Akemi who headed to Glitch to pick up some coffee beans for the trip home. We went by Mitsukoshi and picked up some rice balls, probably the only thing I can stomach at this point. Then, I crawled into bed while Akemi headed off to meet up with Dr. Blackjack who is in Tokyo for a few days, coming off the tail end of a bigger trip.
Akemi informed me she ate two bowls of soba, hot and cold.
I napped for four hours and threw up my banana.
We have dinner reservations tonight at Tokihami, a place both Akemi and I had really been looking forward to going. I’n going to try to tough it out, but hooboy do I feel terrible.
Three hours later, and it’s not going to happen. I’ve thrown up so many times I think I may have pulled a muscle in my upper abdomen.
What the hell is going on?

Feel better soon. Just clear fluids for now.
Sorry to hear. Get some rest when you get home . Hope you feel better soon.
Ooooo Joe that sounds awful. I hope it’s just a 24 hour bug (even though 24 hours is still a long time when you feel rubbish) xxxxxx
Oh geezzz….
Food poisoning is horrible to the system. I’m sure you already know this and everyone has told you but I’m going to repeat it… Please try to drink water, little sips every 5-10 minutes in hopes of keeping it down. And, maybe, little bits of salteen crackers (or similar) also. Staying hydrated is so important. I hope you don’t end up at the ER. You’re both in my prayers.
As I read this, I really hope you’re feeling better. 🤞🏻🍀🙏🏻
I was going to ask your about tipping customs. I know you said it’s considered rude there but you did say something about how you could give a gift instead. If you’re feeling better, maybe you can elaborate on that? If you’re not better, maybe you should see a dr?
Akemi always picks up Japanese crackers to give as gifts. They are greatly appreciated.
The Liquid IV electrolyte drink is good, better than regular Gatorade and the Immodium also helps reduce the painful belly cramping, but my docs have always recommended rice and bananas so with rest hopefully you’ll be good.
If you can get a med visit for some basic tests that is the ideal, does your hotel have a medical provider they can recommend? Hotel doctors are the best they’ve seen basically everything. There are some gnarly bugs going around.

Feeling somewhat better, thanks. Akemi dropped by the pharmacy and picked up a bunch of meds. Can’t wait to try them out!
Glad to read this!

And thanks for the tips, Gilder!
My pleasure.
Something is not agreeing with ME tonight. Simethicone to the rescue!
Oh no! I hope you’re feeling better by the trip home. Wait, you didn’t have that chicken sashimi again, did you?
Take care of yourself!
Norovirus?
Food allergy?
Raw seafood?
Gall bladder attack?
Bird flu?
Flu flu?
Dog treats?
Worms?
Whatever the cause, feel better soon! Look on the bright side – when you return home, you’re gonna be as svelte as a catwalk model. Twiggy Mallozzi, I will call you.
hugs

Worms?
Lol, yes. I lost 5 lbs.
Doesn’t this often happen when you eat your way through Japan? I just remember suggesting Imodium some years ago when you were feeling a bit blech while on vacation. Perhaps there’s one thing that disagrees with you, and if so you should keep a food diary next time. My dad LOVED ceviche and made it several times. The last two times he made it, however, he became violently ill. After the first time he dismissed the connection, but when it happened the next time he stopped making it. Thing is, no one else took sick, so it wasn’t bad fish or improper prep, he just developed an allergy or intolerance of some sort. Perhaps the same has happened with you.
Either that, or you do have worms. 🙂

Ok, had to laugh at Das’s “worms”. She’s back!!!
