Name an under appreciated book that needs a t.v. or film adaptation.
My pick…
In 3016, the 2nd Empire of Man spans hundreds of star systems, thanks to faster-than-light Alderson Drive. Intelligent beings are finally found from the Mote, an isolated star in a thick dust cloud. The bottled-up ancient civilization, at least one million years old, are welcoming, kind, yet evasive, with a dark problem they have not solved in over a million years.
What book would you love to see get the small or big screen treatment?
Akemi insists Japanese crows are even more formidable due to hyper-intelligence developed as a result of their consumption of discarded McDonald’s meals.
This was pretty on point, even back in the day…
Heading back home tomorrow after spending a few days with mom. We did some rearranging yesterday to make room for the hospital bed mom received. She found it much more comfortable for sleeping as it’s easier to get in and out, and also offer the option of remote-adjusting the foot and head. So much so, in fact, that she encouraged me to give it a go while she was downstairs. I respectfully passed. Think I’ll hold out while I still can. Also, ordered LifeLine security system that is comprised of a necklace/bracelet with a panic button in case she falls while no one is home or the remote doesn’t work and she can’t turn the t.v. on to watch Murder She Wrote. I have been doing a lot of sitting while I’ve been here and I very much look forward to resuming my slightly less sedentary lifestyle.

I have a few book-to-film suggestions.
DRAGONFLIGHT and the other Pern novels by Anne McCaffrey
Per Wikipedia, Warner Bros. last held the option, but that was in 2014.

The “Backyard Starship” series by Chaney & Maggert
Probably best as an animated production, due to variety of character species and interstellar settings.

Neal Stephenson’s CRYPTONOMICON
(Note to self: Re-read this book)

I believe Ronald Moore was working on an adaptation of the McCaffrey series at one point.
My teenage self always wanted to see an adaptation of The Amtrak Wars series (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Amtrak_Wars). I thought it was an amazing story! I was obsessed and in my twenties I even had a couple of aborted attempts to break down the story and write my own screenplay. There were rumours of a potential adaptation floating around several years ago but nothing ever happened. Recently re-reading it as an adult it’s actually kinda corny and far fetched. Still, it has a ton of action, gore, and sex so I thought it would be something HBO would love.
Hope your mum feels more rested in the new bed. They are really quite fancy!
Not familiar with this one. Thanks!
Inside Star Trek: The Real Story by Justman and Solow. It could be turned into a fabulous mini series in the style of ‘The Crown’ it’s hilarious and tragic. Someone should pitch it to get made for the 60th anniversary in 2026!
The Legacy of Heorot is a book that I would love to see on scene. Old Man’s War would be good too, but I thought Netflix was working on that a few years ago? There’s so many books that would be good on film but I would hate to see any of them ruined by today’s politics.
Heorot is one of my favorites!
Have you watched “The Three Body Problem” on Netflix? There’s a Chinese version out there but I haven’t watched that yet.
My hubby suggested “The Genesis Machine”.
“Dream Park” was good but that is similar to Fantasy Island.
It’s not sci-fi or fantasy, but Ahab’s Wife would be beautiful on the screen. It does get a little Forrest Gumpy in the second half, but the story is engaging and partly based on the real events that inspired Moby Dick.
I’ll be the first in line for any of McCaffrey’s book adaptations. Love me some dragonriders.
Oh and I’m glad your Mom is more settled. What about cameras? That’s not an option for my mom (because of where she lives & she’s too stubborn) but a friend of mine wired her mom’s living room/kitchen.
Her mom would call and ask questions. She would login and instruct her on how to the remote or whatever she needed. It was a comfort they could log in and see that she was doing well.
Is your mom going to any P.T.?
Yes, we have home cameras to keep an eye on her. And she is actually doing her exercises as I respond to this.
It is funny reading about your mom right now. Sounds so familiar. You gotta find the humor or go crazy. My parents were hilarious! Lol
