A Murder at the End of the World (2023)

Darby Hart, a Gen Z amateur sleuth, attempts to solve a murder at a secluded retreat.

My thoughts: Drab “high-tech thriller” featuring an imitation Girl with the Dragon Tattoo heroine and one disappointing A.I.

Better Call Saul (2015 – 2022) Seasons 2-5

The trials and tribulations of criminal lawyer Jimmy McGill in the years leading up to his fateful run-in with Walter White and Jesse Pinkman.

My thoughts: A worthy successor to Breaking Bad.  One of the better crime shows I’ve watched for this binge and certainly among the Top 50 overall crime shows.

Better Call Saul (2015 – 2022) Season 6

The trials and tribulations of criminal lawyer Jimmy McGill in the years leading up to his fateful run-in with Walter White and Jesse Pinkman.

My thoughts: An enormously disappointing final season feels like it could have trimmed a few episodes, particularly in the back half.  Perhaps its biggest mistake is in alienating its two leads.  Where once I rooted for them despite their faults, here I found their actions reprehensible and the show lost its charm.

3/5

Landscapers (2021)

A devoted and mild-mannered British couple become the focus of an extraordinary investigation when two dead bodies are discovered in the back garden of a house in England.

My thoughts: Mixes a rather mundane and straightforward story with pointless fantasy elements.  Felt like a vanity project.

2.5/5

A Nearly Normal Family (2023)

The world of a seemingly perfect family shatters when a shocking murder proves that they’re willing to make desperate moves to protect one another.

My thoughts: A pretty solid thriller that keeps you guessing, but the ineptness of the police work was, at time, annoyingly plot convenient.

  1. As for A Murder at the End of the World, it would be hard to beat “Girl With The Dragon Tattoo”. Thanks for the review!

I did catch “A Nearly Normal Family”. It was interesting but I’d have to agree with your review.

I watched Landscapers, too. A good cast but it was a strange way to present the story. It almost had a fairy tail feel. Considering it was a true story, it was strangely presented.
Vanity project? Would you elaborate what that means, please?

Your Feb.,16th post brought out some Elon hate. I’m not a big fan of his but I don’t get the hate. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Twitter was a hot mess before he bought it and it still a hot mess. I’m not a Zuckerberg fan either but for some reason he doesn’t get people triggered like Elon. Maybe, it’s because Zuckerberg keeps a lower public profile? Interesting to watch….

Changing the subject, we splurged and subscribed to Paramount. Have you watched Halo? That’s what we’re bingeing on now. We’re enjoying the show, so far. The only thing I’m not enjoying is hubby frequently pausing the show and saying “That’s NOT in the game”.

Happy Sharky Sunday! I’m hoping for a nap later. 🤞🏼

    1. Haven’t watched Halo. For the time being, concentrating on crime shows.

And, yes, agree with you on both Elon and Zuck.

  2. Thanks for the reminder and warning about Better Call Saul.
I remember watching and liking the first 2 seasons, even though its not my usual cuppa tea. Albeit, by the time season three aired I was dealing with go go go 16 hours per day, pretty much non stop, so I didn’t have much time for chilling out with tv series.
I just put seasons 3-5 on my watch list and won’t bother with the final season.
