And that’s a wrap on Dark Matter 2016!  We capped off production with a tri-episode three director extravaganza.

Steve DiMarco kicked things off with a pursuit through ethereal environs.  But who’s chasing who?  The answers will shock.  Then it was John Stead getting the last few scenes from our season 3 opener.  And, finally, Bruce McDonald completed the day – and Episode 302 – with a some big time trouble on the Marauder.

While all this was happening on set, I was back at the office, taking in the Episode 303 production meeting (full steam ahead!), a notes session (hmmmmmm), a budget update meeting (so far, so good), and then a sit-down with Episode 303 (former “I’ve Seen The Other Side Of You”) director Steve DiMarco.  Over the course of most of the afternoon – and several rounds of Nikka Coffey whisky – we discussed his upcoming episode, the film and television industry, memorable experiences in the trenches, and surprisingly similar musical affinities for the works of Ministry and The Prodigy.

Love the guy.

Hey, it’s our production Christmas gift courtesy of Jay Firestone and Prodigy Pictures: a warm hat for those cold location shooting days, some hot chocolate from SOMA, and a festive card depicting The Raza subbing in for Santa’s sleigh.

Today, I wore my new tie compliments of Anita in wardrobe who actually took the time to make it!

Line Producer Norman Denver shows off his team colors – Everton!  It’s funny.  I thought for sure the sorting hat would have put him in Hufflepuff.

The Dark Matter whiskey/y club convenes for its final 2016 gathering.  Kanpai!

Okay, I’ve got two days to finish my Christmas shopping, run all of my errands, and prep for the drive to Montreal.  What podcasts should I download for the 4-5 hour drive?  Suggestions?

Tales of the Black Badge podcasts-they are awesome.

DebbieW

I like “Reply All” from gimletmedia.com, but they do several podcasts that you might like. I also like “Remarkable Lives Tragic Deaths” from parcast.com. They also do one called “Unsolved Murders” that sounds interesting. If you like technology, there’s many podcasts at twit.tv (David Hewlett has popped up on a few of those). “The New Screen Savers” might be a good start there, but that one might better if you download the video version. I also like “Lexicon Valley” from slate.com.

Wow, done with 2016 filming already, went so fast.

Don’t worry, there is still over a week until Christmas; you can get it all done Joe!!

Kanpai! I’d share a shot in solidarity but I’m at a Marriott Courtyard in Flint picking up my daughter from her university…and it’s 5am…and the bar is closed. So other than all of that, I’m raising a glass in my mind anyway.

As for podcasts (I assume this includes audiobooks?), I recently (in the last five years) reacquainted myself with Alan Dean Foster’s work. I hadn’t read any of his work since high school, but I was happy to see he was still at writing (if not as prolific as he was in his younger days). His style is more adventure/action than profound, but a few of his later works do get a bit deeper into metaphysical topics.

One I came across a few years ago was The Interlopers:

As a bonus, it’s read by Ben Browder!

Here’s his other audiobooks:

There’s a number of his classic and more recent novels there as well as some of the offical novelizations he’s done (Star Wars, Alien/Aliens, and so on), so there’s a bit of variety.

For my annual trip to the Consumer Electronics Show, I think I’ll download The Lightyears Beneath My Feet…it just looks fun:

Safe travels to y’all and say hi to Mama Mallozzi for us! I’m looking forward to the pup-pics (although that may push us over the edge rescue-wise…Barb’s been looking at Siberian Husky rescues and texting me links while I’m traveling, so I think she’s building a case for another husky. wink )

I just realised that the previous ADF link included a number of ebooks. Here is the audiobook only list:

And here’s one that has an interstate travel/inter-dimensional theme! grin

I’m not one for podcasts or audiobooks, but I have caught some from Mike Rowe:

These are informative and a discuss interesting sidebars of life in general.

I’ll be working this next week but am vacationing the following week. Someone has to hold down the fort.

Hey! We had some snow last night (1″-1.5″). It looks pretty, but I’m not bothering to shovel it as soon the temps will rise and bring rain. Our first cold snap is ending, thank goodness.

Good luck with those last minute errands and safe travels everyone, wherever you plan to roam.

Merry Christmas to all my blog friends and to all at Dark Matter!

With love,
Carol, Basil and Stash cats with cousins Riley and Finnegan cats, Bobby & Juliana grand nephew & niece, and Crista & Jason, niece & nephew.

I’ll look up that Alan Dean Foster JeffW and Thanks! Mr Mercedes by Stephen King is a good one too. Plus, King has written a couple of stories that branch off from the Mercedes one. Is Akemi going to listen also?

Ponytail recommended that chair for your mom. I bought my mom a small gift that she loved, so I’ll throw that idea out there too. It was a Pyrex set that can go in an oven/microwave and they have plastic lids, so you could store them in the fridge afterwards. My mom has a ton of Tupperware without lids. After a big meal, it’s difficult finding matching tops/bottoms. The “great lid hunt”.

Love the doggie pics!

It’s warm here (70-80F) today but tomorrow, it goes down to freezing. Ice and snow possibly. sad

Have a safe & happy holidays! Excited about the holiday wrapping on S3 2016! Love the pics. Cheers! I don’t know a lot about podcasts but might I suggest a Doctor Who Christmas Special Marathon. I drove to West Virginia last weekend to visit my Aunt & family and listened to The Christmas Invasion, The Voyage of the Damned, The Next Doctor, The Runaway Bride, and Part 1 & 2 of The End of Time. Made the drive go fast. Then I downloaded The Snowmen and The Name of the Doctor for the trip back home. I finished the trip with a triple dose of Donna Noble & Doctor episodes. Nothing says Christmas like a Dalek.

Love the tie. Love the Christmas gift. I bet you can’t wait to introduce Suji to the bigger Mallozzi family. Looking forward to hearing about it.
