Today, the season 3 writers’ room followed up yesterday’s blisteringly creative outburst – in which we broke not one, not two, but two and a half episodes! – by spinning our wheels in frustration, watching an adorable cat video, and having soft serve for lunch.  Ah, well.  There’s always tomorrow.

And the day after when Dark Matter season 2 premieres!  Here are a couple of cast interviews to get you psyched up:

Interviews: Anthony Lemke, Alex Mallari Jr., Shaun Sipos

Interview: Melissa O’Neil

June 29, 2016: 2 Days To The Dark Matter Season 2 Premiere!

Awww, how adorable.  FIVE’s firing some sort of energy-based weapon.  At who? And why?  And why is she wearing that red lab coat?  Consider today’s Dark Matter season 2 sneak peek screen shot.

Still a very beatable tie atop the leader board for the chance to win a cast-signed annotated copy of the first episode of our season premiere: “Episode 14: Welcome To Your New Home”!  Time is running out to enter!

Win a Dark Matter script!

I’ll be live-tweeting our season premiere Friday night – with a little help from some friends.  Follow my dedicated Dark Matter account for all the live-tweeting action – @DarkMatter_show – this Friday at 7 p.m. PDT, 10 p.m. EST/PDT.

Then join me July 4th @BaronDestructo for a live after-show Periscope directly following the U.K. premiere (20:00 on Syfy UK!  Then 21:00 on Periscope!).

Off to do another interview.  But, before I go…

A little something from the Stargate archives – for all of you wraith enthusiasts out there.  Designs (as almost always) by James Robbins.

  1. Writing always does seem to be done in fits and starts like that. Breathtaking progress followed by hours of staring out the window or something like that. The soft serve sounds good, though!

    We’re finally getting some much needed rain here today. Things have been scary dry lately and I’ve been worried that the lawn that I spent so much time and effort (and money) on, was going to just dry up and I’d have to start over. Now, I just have to hope it doesn’t wash away!

  2. I think maybe if you watched an adorable dog video, the writer’s block would have lifted immediately. I’m so excited. I am going to be able to watch and live-tweet. I plan to lock my door so no one in this house (human or dog) can bother me. You don’t know how much I need this. Since Christmas, it’s been loss after loss after loss, stress after stress after stress. I need the tide to turn. Maybe July 1 will be the key. 🙂

  3. Hi Joe
    I guess if you don’t say who’s tied atop the list, it could always be me!
    🙂

  5. Sorry I’ve been MIA, but my days have been consumed with gardening & nights with Photoshop of Promotional posters / Fan Art for Dark Matter. I’ve had landscape gardeners transforming my back courtyard and I’ve been transplanting roses in readiness for some exterior awnings. I’m pretty tired but pumped for Season 2 of Dark Matter.

    Well I’d like to throw my entry in to win the signed script… here goes:

    “Episode 14: Welcome To Your New Home” – DOG 12
    “Episode 15: Kill Them All” – DOG 4
    “Episode 16: I’ve Seen The Other Side Of You” – DOG 7
    “Episode 17: We Were Family” – DOG 13
    “Episode 18: We Voted Not To Space You” – DOG 2
    “Episode 19: We Should Have Seen This Coming” – DOG 9
    “Episode 20: She’s One Of Them Now” – DOG 1
    “Episode 21: Stuff to Steal, People to Kill” – DOG 5
    “Episode 22: Going Out Fighting” – DOG 8
    “Episode 23: Take The Shot” – DOG 3
    “Episode 24: Wish I’d Spaced You When I Had The Chance” – DOG 11
    “Episode 25: Sometimes In Life You Don’t Get To Choose” – DOG 10
    “Episode 26: But First, We Save The Galaxy” – DOG 6

    This was excrutiatingly difficult Joe. There’s not much information on the episodes. I tried to piece together what i could. I’ll sleep on it and have another think about it tomorrow when I’m at the hairdresser. Good luck all!!!

    Cheers, Chev

  6. The only thing better than ice cream to break a writer’s block is bacon! Bacon is good for everything! Just had a bacon, lettuce & tomato sandwich for brunch. The sneak peak of Five is intriguing, glad you told us that was a lab coat, thought she had a new attire for this season.

    Vacationing away here in South Carolina! Just submitted my choices for the contest. What would really be an awesome bday present besides the S2 premiere would be to win that script! Hint , hint.

    The weather has been great, the company even better! Luckily I don’t know how to post pics to this post so you’ll be sparred the pics of my toes in the sand, birds in the surf, shrimp boats closely offshore and a thousand sunset pictures. I refuse to get up early enough for sunrise.

    Well as they say “life’s a beach”….check back later tonight….

  7. LOVE the Wraith hand pics!! Thankyouthankyouthankyou!! Wish we had those back when I was active on the Stargate forums…so much discussion fodder right there!

    Looking forward to the premiere, but just realized it’s a terrible night for it! July 4th weekend? Ugh. Lots of people will be travelling, or even out watching fireworks (depending on the town). I hope the numbers aren’t too sucky, and that the holiday weekend will be taken into consideration. I really want this show to stay around for a while. 🙂

    RE: Writer’s block. I have it all the time – I can write a short scene, but nothing beyond that. And that’s okay, because those short scenes are usually just humourous bits inspired by a show or movie (that’s the extent of my desire to write ‘fan fic’ 😉 ). I did that a lot with the Wraith because anything with Todd and Rodney just inspired the funnies in my brain. 😀 And it was good for a laugh or three. But anything longer than a page? Nope. I never get too far because I have ‘Oh, look! A chicken!’ syndrome. 😛

    Now, I have tried to write original stories, but I usually run into a brick wall after a dozen or so pages. Again, I think it’s the ADD/ADHD thing. I lose focus and my brain moves onto something else. But if I want to re-focus, then sometimes if I watch something I really love, and that has similar aspects to what I want to write, then the visual images stimulate my mental process. For instance, let’s say I want to write a story about a Napoleonic era British sailor, then I’d watch the Hornblower movies, or Master and Commander. Or if I wanted to write something sci fi-ish, then I’d watch Star Wars or Star Trek or…ya know…Stargate. I don’t steal ideas from those things, but just visually putting myself into that genre gives spark to my own ideas. So, maybe y’all just need to sit down and watch a good space opera together. 😉

    Or read a comic book… My suggestions: The Fuse by Anthony Johnston (artist Justin Greenwood), Image Comics. Three trades available so far.

    Faster than Light by Brian Haberlin, Image Comics. One trade released so far.

    Drifter by Ivan Brandon (artist Nic Klein), Image Comics. Two trades released so far.

    I just realized I’m reading a lot from Image Comics… 🙂

  8. Do I get a cookie for not putting all the coding in the above post for bold and italics? I really wanted to, but I remember you saying how bothersome it was to edit that stuff out when quoting or copy/pasting. So I refrained, even though it’s not really something you’re going to quote or anything. I just didn’t want to make you life more complicated than it already is. 😀

    das

  9. I’m with Lemke on the animated movies, Zootopia, Croods and Wreck it Ralph are awesome.

    Whoever Five is blasting had it coming, that girl does not look her temper easily. One more day to DM and KJ, whee!

  10. For DM premiere – Great BBQ ribs and wings and pecan pie.
    Yep cooking my fingers to the bone on Friday day…for the night time show.
    Wellll, cooking in the Rock N Ribs kitchen – welllll they are cooking BUT me and friends will be eating and enjoying the show.
    BRING IT ON already!

  11. Live tweeting and Periscope afterwards – fab! 👍
    Another cool screen shot but is this the Raza Five or an AU Five? 🤔
    The wraith designs are great.

  12. @Sylvia:

    Dang it! Now you’ve got me wanting BBQ! And I’m flying back to Chicaoland tonight, probablty arriving home around 1am, so I will be home in time for the premiere party, but that’s not enough time to smoke some pulled pork.

    Hmmm…now that I think about it, that is enough time to do some ribs or a brisket. Soooo, BBQ it is!

    And then pecan pie?!? You’re killing me! I’ll have to see if I can get some decent pecans from Woodmans and make a bourbon pecan pie in time for the premiere. 😀

  13. @I’m with Lemke on the animated movies, Zootopia, Croods and Wreck it Ralph are awesome.

    Wreck it Ralph 2 was announced today by Disney too. The first film was amazing in 3D. Not to mention Vanellope was easy to root for because she was underestimated by people because of her glitchyness lol.

    I think this film would appeal to pretty much anyone. I can’t imagine anyone could watch the movie and not like it.

    The merch produced by Disney wasn’t that bad either.

  14. You should see my sheet of paper. I would decide where a dog should be and then decide that wasn’t quite right and then change my mind again. Can’t wait to see the logic of the answers once they can be revealed: My guesses and most of them are just using the same method I use for picking numbers for Lotto:

    “Episode 14: Welcome To Your New Home” DOG 1

    “Episode 15: Kill Them All” DOG 13

    “Episode 16: I’ve Seen The Other Side Of You” DOG 7

    “Episode 17: We Were Family” DOG 3

    “Episode 18: We Voted Not To Space You” DOG 2

    “Episode 19: We Should Have Seen This Coming” DOG 12

    “Episode 20: She’s One Of Them Now” DOG 8

    “Episode 21: Stuff to Steal, People to Kill” DOG 6

    “Episode 22: Going Out Fighting” DOG 5

    “Episode 23: Take The Shot” DOG 10

    “Episode 24: Wish I’d Spaced You When I Had The Chance” DOG 9

    “Episode 25: Sometimes In Life You Don’t Get To Choose” DOG 4

    “Episode 26: But First, We Save The Galaxy” DOG 11

  15. Whaaaaaaait!!! I decided to take my best shot:

    14 = 12
    15 = 1
    16 = 3
    17 = 9
    18 = 2
    19 = 10
    20 = 7
    21 = 13
    22 = 6
    23 = 8
    24 = 4
    25 = 5
    26 = 11

  16. @ JeffW – yup…ummmm ummmmm good.
    Hope your travels are uneventful….get home and get cooking!

    Changing gears…are you and Barb going to the last Creation Stargate Con in Sept? 9-23 to 25-2016. Westin Ohare.

  17. Regarding that picture of shooting Five:
    I think she infiltrated some lab and uses some weapon from that lab. 🙂
