Well, this is interesting.  Apparently, Canadians are HUGE fans of science fiction television:

October 5, 2015: Canadians Love Their Scifi Television!

“During the 2014-2015 broadcast year Canadian TV sci-fi series Orphan Black on Space (4.3 million viewers*), Dark Matter on Space (3.7 million), Between on City Total and Killjoys on Space (both 3.2 million) each reached roughly 10% of the Canadian population. In addition, these shows performed above their respective channel averages in the very desirable 18-34 demographic.”

That’s 10% of the Canadian population that tuned into our little show.

Not bad.  It brings to mind another scifi series that far surpassed expectations when it aired on Canada’s Space Channel several years back.  I’ll give you a hint…

Speaking of Stargate, the giveaways are enroute.  We sent off the last one this morning.  Akemi, as always, personalized each envelope…

Toronto-bound tomorrow morning!  Hoping I can get some writing done on the flight.

  1. What happened to the book with the dvd’s?

Also sad I missed the set visit a few months back. My friend from the U.S. came up to visit to write a review, and it almost didn’t happen because you were filming in Hamilton that day (luckily, you were able to re-schedule the next day). I was trying to be his Canadian guide, but there was no room for me. A cube would be a nice consolation prize. Come on. Ya got thousands of them.

  2. LOL! I can’t wait for Canadian Bunny! I need to find where the stargate is on this end though. Probably down the street at the post office.

Those Canadian numbers are excellent, but they always have been great even for the Stargate shows. I was thinking a while back that if it were up to the Canadian ratings for SGU, we’d probably still be watching it. So frustrating.

I’m not sure how it is on Syfy, but I know that it doesn’t hurt that Space Channel really promotes it here. I remember when SGU was on that they would have an episode of InnerSpace on right after it, the first section of which was to discuss the SGU episode that just aired. Really great support.

Have great luck at your meetings! I do hope the whole goes well.

  3. Congratulations on the Dark Matter ratings! It just goes to show what a great show you have.

Funny, I’ll be heading to Vancouver during the last week of October. It’ll be strange visiting Vancouver knowing my favorite Writer/Producer friend is not there. I will probably be in Torono the first week of November, though, so let me know if I can bring anything from Vancouver for you all.

So, are you all celebrating Canadian Thanksgiving in Toronto or heading over to your moms? Either way, I hope it’s a good one for you all. Happy Thanksgiving!

  4. I’m so excited that Dark Matter finally got onto Netflix, now I have been binge watching and now don’t have to ignore your blog so as not to spoil myself since it’s in hiatus. Ok, I just had to get that out there.

  5. oh yeah, I loved that part where I worked on Stargate and was also participating in Ratings tracking, and would watching every time it was on. didn’t hurt that it was also an awesome show to watch, and now I feel sad that it is gone.

  6. Okay dang… if you’d said the things came with an Akemi drawing, I’d maybe have tried to win. Oh well, I can screen cap and save on my own!

Sorry the doggies have to transport, but they’ll adjust. So glad the ratings were good and we have hope for many more seasons!

  7. Too bad you can’t take a stargate to Toronto! I dread flying anymore, the cheap seats are horrific, although TSA is letting me through the “old person” line now, and I get to keep my shoes on.

I love it!! YEA, Akemi! 🙂

MaggieMay: Really? I didn’t know they had an old person line. I wonder if that’s true in the USA? I’m dreading having to fly when my dad passes. I’m in a wheelchair.

  9. Congrats on the Dark Matter ratings, roll on Season 2.

    I adore my Akemi-personalised envelope 😄
I’d love receiving another envelope with her adorable wee drawings, if I’m fortunate enough to win any Stargate Atlantis memorabilia……when you have another round of questions 👍

Well done to all the winners!

  10. @Tom Gardiner: Heh, “SG-Bun”. I agree, the coasters will be nice, but to have an original Akemi drawing! Amazing.

  11. Awwwwwe, I want an Akemi personalized envelope too! You don’t have to put anything in it either. Just seal it up, have Akemi do her artwork and mail it to me. Pleeeeease!

@ maggiemayday – Yeah, what is this “old person” line you speak of?? I’m sure I’d qualify. I dread driving anymore. People are so rude in their cars. They speed everywhere and on any road, ride your bumper, and generally drive like crap. They have a Dirty Harry “go ahead make my day”, get-out-of-my-way attitude. It’s not safe anymore.

Joe, how was your day? Busy, busy I’m sure.

  12. Got mine today also, Special Thanks to Akemi for the envelope art. Hope you had a good trip.

  13. The Akemi cartoon had me in stitches; the only people who love sci fi more than Canadians are bunnies! I’m debating an LA trip; I want to get meet up with family for AFI Fest, but my better angels warn that with all the glee and fun will come bills. Plus I’m late with the planning and I have other trips I have to do. Gotta keep mullin’ it over.

  14. I would love an Akemi envelope with just a “hello” on it. I have saved all the cards and letters people have sent to me over the many years
